Role Purpose
The Kitchen Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring that all kitchen areas, meeting rooms, and stationery points across our facilities are consistently stocked with essential consumables, cutlery, crockery, and hygiene products. This position supports the Stock Controller in maintaining accurate stock levels, issuing and receiving goods, and ensuring that storerooms are clean, safe, and well-organized. The role is ideal for a proactive, detail-oriented individual who thrives in a team-oriented environment and is passionate about maintaining high standards of service delivery.
Main Outputs and Responsibilities
Stock Replenishment & Control
- Daily Replenishment: Ensure kitchens, meeting rooms, and stationery points are fully stocked with required consumables, including refreshments, cutlery, and crockery, on a daily basis.
- Stock Issuing and Receiving: Use handheld devices to accurately issue and receive stock, ensuring seamless stock movement tracking.
- Stock Level Monitoring: Promptly report low stock levels to the Stock Controller to prevent shortages.
- Weekly Stock Counts: Conduct regular stock counts to maintain accurate inventory records.
- Stock Distribution: Collect and distribute stock to relevant buildings as per operational requirements.
- Specialized Consumables: Issue fruit, milk, and hygiene consumables (e.g., to Prestige weekly) in line with schedules.
Storeroom Management
- Cleanliness and Organization: Maintain storerooms in a neat, clean, and orderly condition to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
- Weekly Cleaning: Arrange and oversee weekly storeroom cleaning to uphold hygiene standards.
- Safe Storage Practices: Ensure products are stacked safely and stored correctly to prevent damage or spoilage.
- Stock Rotation: Manage stock expiry dates and implement the First-In-First-Out (FIFO) method to maintain freshness and quality.
- Quality Assurance: Perform quality checks on fruit and other perishable items to ensure compliance with standards.
Equipment & Facilities Care
- Daily Maintenance: Clean coffee machines and other kitchen equipment daily to ensure functionality and hygiene.
- Responsible Equipment Use: Handle stock-related equipment with care to prevent damage or loss.
- Fault Reporting: Immediately report any equipment faults or stock shortages to the Stock Controller for swift resolution.
Collaboration & Support
- Teamwork: Work closely with the Stock Controller and colleagues to manage stock levels efficiently and meet replenishment deadlines.
- Support Role: Assist team members in achieving quality standards and operational goals.
- Communication: Actively participate in daily team meetings to foster collaboration and ensure alignment on tasks and priorities.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Matric (Senior Certificate) or equivalent qualification.
- Experience: Prior experience in a kitchen, stock control, or facilities management environment is advantageous but not mandatory.
Skills and Attributes:
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic understanding of stock control processes (training will be provided).
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- A proactive and responsible approach to tasks.
