
Nyandeni Local Municipality invites interested and suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of General Assistant: Road & Stormwater. Applicants must have a minimum of Grade 8, basic literacy skills, and at least three months of relevant work experience. The role involves performing general laboring activities related to road and stormwater maintenance, including clearing debris, repairing potholes, and complying with health and safety regulations.

Requirements:

Key Performance Areas:
- Performing general laboring activities associated with maintenance and repair work to roads and storm water channels and drainage systems.
- Perform laboring activities associated with providing support during excavations of defined areas using handheld tools, laying of materials and reinforcement products (concrete blocks, etc.), cleaning or clearing blockage and removing debris from storm water channels / drainage systems, repair and maintenance of potholes.
- Clean worksites, stores equipment, load/off load materials prior to and from worksites.
- Sweep, gather and load litter and general waste and place in designated areas/vehicles.
- Cleaning store and equipment/tools.
- Cleans external areas such as entranceways, sidewalks and parking lots using manual and power brooms, rakes, shovels and other equipment to remove dirt, leaves, snow and other refuse.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Removing debris or grit using handheld tools from designated areas.
- Comply to safety procedures and guidelines (Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993).
- Receiving instructions and guidelines from the immediate superior on activities to be carried out.
- Conducting routine maintenance checks.
- Picking up litter and other items within the area and sweeping walkways.
- Trimming shrubs and/or removing overgrown vegetation using handheld tools.
- Informing the public about hazardous areas and showing them the alternative routes in order to ensure adequate support is made available to enable continuity of operations and laid down instructions are complied with.
