DPWI Vacancies 2026: Driver and Driver/Messenger Positions Available

The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) invites interested and suitably qualified candidates to apply for Driver and Driver/Messenger vacancies available in Bloemfontein and Cape Town. These permanent government positions offer an annual salary of R201,093 and are suitable for candidates with Grade 10 and a valid driver’s licence. Candidates with a Professional Driving Permit (PDP) will have an added advantage where applicable.

Driver: Cleaning Services (Ref No: 2026/276)

Salary: R201 093 per annum

Requirements
  • A minimum of Grade 10 or an equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA
  • A valid driver’s licence
  • Knowledge of the Minimum Information Security Standard (MISS) Act
  • Basic literacy and numeracy
  • Knowledge of the National Road Traffic Act Regulations
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good interpersonal relations
  • Ability to plan work processes and manage time effectively
  • Solid driving skills
  • Personal attributes including being hardworking, trustworthy, punctual, accurate, polite, helpful, honest, and flexible

Duties
  • Transport work teams, materials, and equipment to various Magistrate Courts
  • Complete vehicle logbooks and trip authorisation documentation
  • Pick up and drop off employees as assigned
  • Verify materials loaded onto the vehicle before departure
  • Assist with loading and unloading of materials and equipment
  • Ensure vehicles are not overloaded
  • Follow delivery schedules to ensure timely transportation
  • Transport departmental officials, clients, and visitors as required
  • Maintain professional conduct and interaction with all stakeholders
  • Receive documents and items for transportation and ensure safe delivery
  • Complete transport schedules and maintain accurate trip records
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspection at the beginning of each shift
  • Ensure vehicles are clean, safe, and properly maintained
  • Report vehicle defects, repair requirements, accidents, injuries, and damage promptly
  • Operate vehicles in accordance with road traffic regulations and departmental policies
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle usage and movement


Driver/Messenger: Provisioning and Logistics (Ref No: 2026/277)

Salary: R201 093 per annum
Centre: Cape Town Regional Office

Requirements
  • A minimum of Grade 10 or an equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA
  • A valid driver’s licence
  • A Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
  • Knowledge of procedures to operate a motor vehicle
  • Knowledge of prescripts for the correct utilisation of motor vehicles
  • Knowledge of procedures to ensure motor vehicles are properly maintained
  • Knowledge of procedures to perform messenger functions and routine office support functions, such as registry services and photocopying
  • Knowledge of the city district in which the functions will be performed
Duties
  • Perform general messenger and delivery services
  • Sort and arrange correspondence in the registry
  • Collect submissions and other documents from the assigned office
  • Render a driver service, including driving light and medium motor vehicles to transport passengers
  • Perform routine maintenance on the allocated vehicle
  • Sort mail, files, documents, and parcels
  • Render delivery services and ensure items to collect are sealed and addressed
  • Deliver mail, files, documents, and parcels to addressees
  • Ensure recipients sign the delivery book or register
  • Record contents and physical addresses in the delivery book or register
  • Perform general office assistant tasks, including making copies, faxing, and shredding documents
  • Render auxiliary administrative support as required
  • Support the security profile of the office
  • Support registry-related activities
  • Support operator-related activities

The completed Z83 form must be signed, initialled and dated, and accompanied by a detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) only.

Certified copies of qualifications, identity documents and driver’s licence are not required when applying. Only shortlisted candidates will be requested to submit certified copies of qualifications and supporting documents before the interview. Certified documents must not be older than six months.

Applicants must ensure that Parts A and B of the Z83 form are fully completed. Where space is limited in Parts C to G, information may be referenced in the attached CV. Page 1 of the Z83 form must be initialled, while Page 2 must be signed and dated.

Separate applications must be submitted for each post. Candidates applying for multiple positions must complete a separate Z83 form and attach a separate CV for every vacancy. Applications submitted using the old or incorrect Z83 form will be disqualified.
