Requirements
Interested applicants must meet the minimum requirements for the Cleaner position.
- Minimum ABET Level 4, Grade 10 or Grade 12 certificate.
- Ability to read and write.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Must be physically fit and capable of performing strenuous cleaning duties.
- Willingness to rotate across wards and departments as required.

- Ability to handle cleaning chemicals and equipment safely.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices will be an added advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be responsible for a range of cleaning and hygiene-related duties within Weskoppies Hospital.
- Clean and maintain floors, walls, windows, doors, furniture, lockers, beds, curtains, blinds and other designated surfaces within wards and departments.
- Clean and maintain external areas, including corridors and entrances.
- Remove litter and waste from assigned areas and ensure that these areas remain clean.
- Remove and dispose of waste in accordance with hospital waste management policies and infection prevention and control standards.
- Clean staff and MHCU patient kitchen areas.
- Clean refrigerators, microwave ovens and other designated equipment.
- Wash dishes, cups and utensils in wards and designated areas.
- Safely use, store and maintain cleaning chemicals, materials and equipment in accordance with safety standards.
- Clean spills immediately to prevent accidents and maintain a safe environment.
- Replenish consumables daily, including soap, toilet paper, deodoriser blocks and air fresheners.
- Complete and sign required daily documentation, including cleanliness checklists, attendance registers and delegation registers.
- Report maintenance defects, hazards and shortages to the supervisor or unit manager without delay.
- Inform the supervisor or unit manager when leaving or returning to assigned areas during working hours.
- Maintain a clean, hygienic and safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
- Follow infection prevention and occupational health and safety standards.
- Perform any other duties reasonably delegated by the supervisor within the scope of the position.
