ACTOM is inviting applications for five Cleaner positions based in Pretoria. The successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining a clean, hygienic, safe and orderly working environment across company offices, production areas, ablution facilities, common areas and other designated premises.
The Cleaner positions form part of the Facilities Department and report to the Team Leader – Cleaning & Gardening. The role is suited to reliable, hardworking individuals who can follow instructions, maintain high hygiene standards and perform cleaning and housekeeping duties responsibly.

Cleaner Job Responsibilities
The appointed candidates will be responsible for a range of cleaning, housekeeping, hygiene and general support duties. Key responsibilities include:
- Cleaning and maintaining designated offices, meeting rooms, reception areas, passages, kitchens, ablution facilities and other common areas.
- Sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors and cleaning other surfaces as required.
- Dusting and cleaning desks, furniture, windowsills, doors and other appropriate surfaces.
- Cleaning and sanitising toilets, basins, showers and other ablution facilities.
- Emptying waste bins and disposing of waste in accordance with company waste-management requirements.
- Replenishing consumables such as toilet paper, hand soap, paper towels and other approved hygiene supplies.
- Maintaining kitchens, tea areas and communal facilities in a clean and hygienic condition.
- Assisting with cleaning and housekeeping in designated production or operational areas where required and where it is safe to do so.
- Attending to spillages and other cleaning requirements promptly.
- Assisting with preparation and cleaning before and after meetings, events, training sessions and company functions.
- Supporting general housekeeping activities as reasonably required.
- Providing support during company shutdowns, special cleaning activities and other operational requirements.
- Performing other reasonable duties within the scope of the position as instructed by the supervisor.
Hygiene and Safety Responsibilities
The Cleaner will be expected to comply with company health, safety, environmental and housekeeping policies and procedures at all times.
Responsibilities will include correctly using cleaning chemicals, materials, equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE). Candidates must follow prescribed instructions when handling, storing and using cleaning chemicals to ensure that cleaning activities are carried out safely.
The successful candidates will also be responsible for ensuring that cleaning equipment is used safely and kept in good working condition. Damaged, defective or unsafe equipment must be reported to the relevant supervisor.
Any hazards, unsafe conditions, leaks, spillages, broken fixtures or maintenance issues identified while performing cleaning duties must be reported immediately.
When cleaning floors or areas where there is a risk of slipping, appropriate warning signs must be placed to protect employees, visitors and other people using the premises.
Good personal hygiene must be maintained, and workplace hygiene standards must be followed. Employees may also be required to participate in relevant health and safety training and toolbox talks.
Cleaning Materials and Equipment
Cleaners will be required to use company cleaning materials and equipment responsibly and economically.
Duties include keeping cleaning equipment clean, secure and properly stored after use. Cleaning-material levels should be monitored, with the Team Leader notified when replenishment is required.
The successful candidates must help prevent unnecessary wastage or misuse of company cleaning materials and supplies. The cleaning-storage area must also be maintained in an orderly and hygienic condition.
General Support Duties
The role may involve providing cleaning and housekeeping support during meetings, events, training sessions and company functions.
Cleaners may also be required to assist with special cleaning activities, company shutdowns and other operational requirements. Additional reasonable duties related to the position may be assigned by the supervisor when required.
Flexibility and willingness to assist with different cleaning and housekeeping requirements will be important for this position.
Security and Confidentiality
Because the role involves working throughout company premises, successful candidates will be expected to maintain confidentiality regarding company information, documents and activities encountered while performing their duties.
Any lost property or items found on company premises must be reported immediately to the relevant supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience
The following qualifications, skills and experience are indicated for the Cleaner positions:
- Grade 12 or equivalent would be advantageous.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- A cleaning or housekeeping-related certificate would be advantageous but is not essential.
- 1–2 years’ experience in a cleaning, housekeeping or similar environment.
- Experience handling cleaning materials, chemicals and basic cleaning equipment would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of basic occupational health and safety and workplace hygiene requirements would be advantageous.
- Reliability and a strong work ethic.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and established procedures.
