Key Responsibilities

Successful applicants will be assigned to one of the following project categories:

Cleaning and Waste Management Project
  • Perform litter picking and street sweeping in designated areas
  • Clean public spaces such as parks, taxi ranks, central business districts (CBDs), villages, and open areas
  • Assist with waste collection during municipal service delivery operations
  • Participate in municipal clean-up campaigns and environmental awareness programmes
  • Carry out basic separation of recyclable materials where required
  • Support efforts to maintain hygiene and cleanliness in high-traffic public zones
Greening and Gardening Project
  • Participate in tree planting initiatives across municipal spaces
  • Maintain parks, cemeteries, and other public facilities
  • Conduct gardening activities including watering, weeding, and mulching
  • Assist with basic landscaping and beautification of community areas
  • Contribute to environmental rehabilitation projects
  • Support sustainability initiatives aimed at improving ecological conditions
Minimum Requirements
  • Must be unemployed at the time of application
  • Age between 18 and 35 years
  • Minimum qualification: Matric (Grade 12) or NQF Level 4 equivalent
  • Preference will be given to applicants with environmental-related qualifications
  • Must be a resident of Makhado Local Municipality (proof required)
  • No prior work experience required
  • Willingness to participate in physical outdoor work
  • Ability to follow instructions and work in a team environment
