Vacancy: 3X Security Guards – Kruger National Park

South African National Parks (SANParks) invites interested and suitably qualified candidates to apply for three Security Guard positions within the Protection Services division at Kruger National Park. Operating under the Paterson B2 grading, these roles report directly to the Security Supervisor and focus on maintaining the safety of park infrastructure and personnel. Successful applicants are responsible for monitoring premises, managing access control registers, and conducting random vehicle searches to prevent illegal activities or pilferage. These positions require a high level of vigilance and the ability to detect suspicious behavior to ensure the continued protection of one of the world’s premier conservation areas.

Qualified candidates must possess a Grade 12 certificate, a valid PSIRA registration (Grades C, D, and E), and at least two years of relevant experience in the security sector. Essential technical requirements include firearm competency, a valid driver’s license with a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP), and a solid understanding of wildlife crime. Because the roles demand high physical endurance, applicants will undergo a fitness assessment and must demonstrate proficiency in first aid and security systems. Purpose of the Role

The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the safety and security of the park, its infrastructure, visitors, and staff. The position plays a critical role in preventing illegal activities, protecting wildlife, and maintaining order within the park through effective monitoring, patrols, and access control.

Key Responsibilities
Security Operations
  • Safeguard the park and its infrastructure against emergencies, unlawful activities, and security threats
  • Monitor premises continuously and identify any suspicious or unusual behaviour
  • Report all incidents, risks, or irregularities to the relevant security authorities
Access Control
  • Record all individuals entering the premises in the access register
  • Ensure only authorised personnel and vehicles are granted entry into the park
  • Conduct thorough checks at entry and exit points
Patrol and Surveillance
  • Perform regular and random patrols across designated areas
  • Inspect facilities and surroundings to detect signs of unauthorised entry or tampering
  • Maintain high visibility to deter criminal activities
Search and Inspection
  • Conduct random searches of vehicles and individuals entering or leaving the park
  • Prevent theft, illegal removal of property, or prohibited items
  • Monitor parking areas and manage crowd control where necessary
Reporting and Communication
  • Report incidents and suspicious activities to the Shift Supervisor, Security Supervisor, Chief Security Officer, or Protection Services Manager
  • Maintain accurate records of all security-related activities
Additional Duties
  • Provide security support at gates and public areas
  • Assist with general safety procedures and emergency responses
  • Perform any additional duties as required within the scope of security operations
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Security Certificate (Grade C, D, and E)
  • Valid PSIRA Registration
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Security Guard
Knowledge and Skills
  • Understanding of wildlife crime and conservation-related security risks
  • Firearm competency with experience in handling firearms
  • Valid driver’s licence with a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP)
  • Strong knowledge of securing buildings, facilities, and open environments
  • Ability to detect suspicious activities and respond effectively
  • Knowledge of first aid procedures
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with security systems and equipment
  • Strong sense of responsibility and commitment to safety
Physical and Operational Requirements
  • Must be physically fit and capable of performing patrol duties
  • Willingness to undergo a physical fitness assessment
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and varying conditions
  • Preparedness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays
