This permanent role is responsible for executing environmental assessments, inspections, monitoring, and analysis in accordance with statutory requirements and company standards. The successful candidate will support environmental compliance by identifying deviations and opportunities, preparing reports, analysing environmental data, and engaging with regulatory authorities and service providers.
The role further involves tracking compliance with environmental permits, licences, and authorisations, conducting environmental audits across air, water, land, biodiversity, and rehabilitation, and maintaining accurate records on environmental management systems. The Environmental Officer will also contribute to environmental awareness programmes, support mine planning processes to ensure adherence to EMPr and WUL conditions, and assist with environmental reporting, incident investigations, and the implementation of corrective and preventative actions.

The Role
The Environmental Officer will execute environmental assessments, inspections, monitoring, and interrogation of monitoring results in line with all statutory and company requirements. The role includes reporting deviations or opportunities, analysing environmental data, and engaging with authorities and service providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Track compliance with environmental permits, licences, and authorisations
- Log environmental non-conformances on the event management system and escalate to line management
- Prepare and submit accurate and timeous internal environmental monitoring and inspection reports
- Assist with statutory and company environmental reporting
- Support the development of environmental policies, standards, and procedures
- Attend mine planning meetings and ensure compliance with EMPr and WUL licence conditions
- Develop and implement environmental awareness programmes
- Liaise with environmental regulatory authorities on reporting, audits, and directives
- Collaborate with line management to address non-conformances and implement mitigation measures
- Support external environmental consultants and service providers
- Conduct environmental monitoring, inspections, and audits (air, water, land, biodiversity, rehabilitation)
- Capture and maintain environmental data on the Isometrix system
- Participate in environmental incident investigations and corrective actions
- Assist with environmental capital and operating budget management
Minimum Requirements
- MSc (no experience required) OR
- Honours / BSc / BTech in Natural or Environmental Science (or related field)
- 18 months to 3 years internship or relevant environmental management experience
- Computer literacy (MS Office)
- Valid driver’s licence
- Valid or obtainable Certificate of Fitness
