Overall Job Purpose

As a Cleaner, you will undertake a full range of cleaning duties as instructed by the Cleaning Supervisor. All tasks must follow prescribed methods and fully comply with the organisation’s cleaning specifications to ensure high standards of hygiene and presentation across the regional office facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Your daily and weekly duties will focus on delivering comprehensive cleaning and support services, including:

  • Waste Management — Emptying waste bins and receptacles throughout the premises and safely transporting waste to designated collection points.
  • General Cleaning — Thoroughly cleaning offices, meeting venues, general kitchens, corridors, elevators, public areas, and restrooms in line with the set schedule.
  • Meeting and Event Preparation — Preparing facilities and venues for meetings, training sessions, and other events to ensure they are spotless and ready for use.
  • Surface and Fixture Cleaning — Cleaning walls, windows, doors, as well as emptying and sanitising waste bins.
  • Floor Care — Operating electrically powered scrubbing, polishing, and spray-cleaning machines to burnish, scrub, polish, and maintain floors (following proper training and instruction).
  • Specialised Equipment Use — Using electrically powered pick-up machines for efficient cleaning.
  • Furniture and Fitments — Dusting, damp wiping, washing, or polishing furniture, ledges, window sills, external surfaces of cupboards, shelves, and other fitments.
  • Consumables Replenishment — Regularly restocking soap, toilet rolls, paper towels, and other consumable items at all relevant points.
  • Sanitary Area Maintenance — Cleaning and disinfecting toilets, urinals, hand basins, sinks, baths, showers, and drinking fountains to the highest hygiene standards.
  • Chemical Handling — Safely using approved chemical agents for cleaning and maintenance tasks, strictly as directed and after receiving proper instructions and training from the Supervisor.
  • Compliance and Documentation — Completing and signing the daily cleaning checklist; cleaning machines and equipment after each use; reporting any faults, breakages, or issues with cleaning machinery to the Supervisor for prompt repair.
  • Flexibility — Adhering to emergency and relief schedules when required by the Supervisor.
  • Inventory and Safety Procedures — Correctly completing issue forms when collecting cleaning products and equipment; wearing the appropriate CGS personal protective equipment (PPE) for each task; and complying fully with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and related regulations when handling tools, equipment, and machinery.

  • Capability to operate cleaning machinery and equipment (with training provided where needed).
  • Sound knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, and procedures.
  • Proven cleaning and housekeeping skills.
  • Basic literacy (ability to read and write instructions and checklists).
  • Basic numeracy (ability to count and manage stock items).
  • Reliability, hard work ethic, and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
Educational Qualifications
  • Minimum: Grade 10 (Standard 8).
  • Advantageous: Certificate in Cleaning and Housekeeping.
Knowledge and Experience
  • At least 6 months of relevant working experience in cleaning or housekeeping roles.
