JOB OBJECTIVE
The General Worker role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities aimed at supporting the seamless operation of the Compounding Pharmacy in Bryanston. This position involves performing essential tasks that ensure the facility remains functional, clean, and safe. The General Worker contributes to the efficiency of daily operations by assisting with manual labor, maintaining hygiene standards, and providing support to skilled staff members. TASK DESCRIPTION
The General Worker will undertake the following duties to support the operational needs of the pharmacy:
- General Maintenance and Cleaning: Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and dusting, to maintain a hygienic and tidy workplace. Ensure all work areas, including storage rooms, workstations, and common areas, are kept clean and free of clutter.
- Material Handling: Assist in loading and unloading supplies, equipment, or materials as required. Move items to designated storage areas, ensuring proper organization and accessibility.
- Support for Skilled Staff: Provide assistance to pharmacists, technicians, or other skilled workers by performing tasks such as preparing workstations, organizing tools, or transporting materials. Act as a reliable support to ensure smooth workflow for specialized tasks.
- Basic Maintenance Tasks: Carry out minor maintenance activities, such as replacing light bulbs, checking equipment functionality, or reporting repair needs to the supervisor. Follow instructions carefully to ensure tasks are completed accurately.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required. Identify and report any hazards, damages, or incidents immediately to the Responsible Pharmacist or designated supervisor.
- Inventory Support: Assist in inventory management tasks, such as counting stock, organizing supplies, or labeling items under supervision. Ensure materials are stored correctly to prevent damage or contamination.
- Operational Flexibility: Perform additional duties as assigned by management to meet the pharmacy’s operational demands. This may include tasks outside the standard scope, such as assisting during peak periods or supporting special projects.
- Workplace Organization: Maintain an organized work environment by ensuring tools, equipment, and materials are returned to their proper places after use. Contribute to a clutter-free and efficient workspace.
QUALIFICATIONS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

- Educational Background: A Matric certificate is advantageous but not mandatory. Candidates without formal qualifications may be considered based on relevant experience and demonstrated capability.
- Experience: Prior experience in a general worker role or similar position, such as cleaning, warehousing, or manual labor, is beneficial. Familiarity with a pharmacy or healthcare environment is a plus but not required.
- Physical Fitness: The role requires physical stamina to perform manual labor, including lifting, carrying, and moving items up to 20 kg. Candidates must be capable of standing, bending, or walking for extended periods.
