
The Department of Agriculture (DOA) invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Administrative Clerk (Ref No: 3/3/1/27/2025) within the Chief Directorate: Food Safety and Quality Assurance, based at the Head Office in Pretoria, Gauteng. The position offers a salary of R228 321 per annum (Level 05). Applicants must be in possession of a Grade 12 Certificate, and no prior work experience is required. The role requires knowledge of clerical duties and practices, data capturing, computer operation, and the collection of statistics, as well as an understanding of the legislative framework governing the Public Service and standard working procedures. Key skills include good verbal and written communication, planning and organisational ability, computer literacy, interpersonal skills, flexibility, and the ability to work effectively within a team.
The successful candidate will render general clerical support services, including recording, organising, storing, capturing and retrieving correspondence and data, updating registers and statistics, handling routine enquiries, managing filing systems, typing correspondence, and maintaining document registers. Additional responsibilities include providing supply chain, personnel and financial administration support, such as assisting with procurement processes, managing stationery and asset registers, maintaining leave and attendance records, arranging travel and accommodation, capturing expenditure, checking subsistence and travel claims, and handling petty cash and telephone accounts. Duties
Render general clerical support services. Record, organise, store, capture and retrieve correspondence and data (line function). Update registers and statistics. Handle routine enquiries. Make photocopies and receive or send facsimiles. Distribute documents and packages to various stakeholders as required. Keep and maintain the filing system for the component. Type letters and/or other correspondence when required. Keep and maintain the incoming and outgoing document register of the component.
Provide supply chain clerical support services within the component. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders in relation to the procurement of goods and services. Obtain quotations and complete procurement forms for the purchasing of standard office items. Perform stock control of office stationery. Keep and maintain the asset register of the component.
Provide personnel administration clerical support services within the component. Maintain a leave register for the component. Keep and maintain personnel records in the component. Keep and maintain the attendance register of the component. Arrange travelling and accommodation.
Provide financial administration support services in the component. Capture and update expenditure in the component. Check the correctness of subsistence and travel claims of officials and submit them to the manager for approval. Handle telephone accounts and petty cash for the component.
