The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) invites interested and suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Security Officer (Ref No: DHET109/02/2026 and DHET110/02/2026). These positions are offered at a salary of R163 680 per annum (Level 03) and are based in Cape Town under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Branch, as well as in Olifantsfontein under the Skills Development Branch: National Artisan Development (Indlela). Applicants must have successfully completed Grade 10/Standard 8/ABET Level 4, a Basic Security Course, and must be registered with PSIRA with a valid Grade C certificate. A valid driver’s license will serve as an added advantage where applicable. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of access control procedures, building patrols, security registers, key control, movement of equipment and stores, prescribed security procedures, and emergency protocols. Strong communication, report writing, administrative, planning, problem-solving, and organisational skills are required, together with integrity, discipline, confidentiality, and the ability to work under pressure.

Successful candidates will be responsible for performing access control functions, monitoring entry and exit points, safeguarding departmental assets, conducting patrols, recording incidents in occurrence books, preventing unauthorised access, and ensuring compliance with security procedures. REQUIREMENTS:

  • Perform access control functions, which will include control of visitors and confirm the appointments with the host ensuring that the visitors register is correctly completed and issue the visitor’s tags/cards.
  • Ensuring that unauthorised persons and dangerous objects do not enter the premises.
  • Report and record the incidents inside the occurrence book.
  • Ensure that Departmental assets do not leave the premises unauthorised.
  • Undertake premises/building patrols to identify water leaks, any signs of break-ins, check unlocked doors, check fire equipment and be able to apply emergency procedures during emergency situations.
  • Report and record all security breaches.
  • Be able to complete all security registers.
