The City of Johannesburg invites applications for the position of Cashier/Cloakroom Attendant within the Community Development Department, Sports & Recreation Unit. This is a short-term contract position (not exceeding 8 months) based at the 2 Helen Joseph, Arts & Culture Building, Newtown. This role is open to both Employees of the City of Johannesburg and External Applicants.
Join the team to contribute to the smooth operation of our community swimming facilities by performing cashier duties, controlling access, and maintaining a clean and safe environment for patrons.

Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: Grade 10 school certificate (required).
- Literacy Skills: Ability to read, write, add, and subtract.
- Technical Skills: Must be able to operate a cash register.
- Experience: 3–6 months of cashier and cleaning experience with basic numeracy skills (ability to collect and calculate monies).
- Residency: Must be domiciled within the jurisdiction of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Area (original proof of residence required).
- Physical and Mental Fitness: Must be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties.
- Vetting: Be prepared to undergo vetting processes.
Primary Function
The primary role of the Cashier/Cloakroom Attendant is to:
- Perform cashier duties, ensuring accurate collection and recording of entrance fees.
- Control access to the swimming pool facility to maintain safety and compliance.
- Carry out cleaning and cloakroom maintenance duties to ensure a hygienic and welcoming environment.
Key Performance Areas
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Fee Collection and Cashier Duties:
- Ensure patrons pay the appropriate entrance fees before accessing the swimming pool.
- Accurately record fees using the cash register.
- Issue swimming pool season tickets as required.
Access Control:
- Monitor and control entry to the swimming pool, preventing access by individuals with infections, contagious diseases, or those who are intoxicated.
- Ensure compliance with facility safety and health regulations.
Facility Maintenance:
- Assist with cleaning the ticket office, change-rooms, and cloakroom areas.
- Monitor the facility to ensure it remains clean, safe, and functional for patrons.
Customer Service:
- Provide courteous and professional service to patrons, addressing inquiries and ensuring a positive experience.
Leading Competencies
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in cash register operations and cash handling procedures.
- Cleaning Expertise: Familiarity with general cleaning chemicals and techniques to maintain hygiene standards.
