The role is based across all nine provinces, with one position available per location. The successful candidate will serve as the first point of contact for visitors and callers, providing a professional, courteous, and efficient reception service. The Receptionist will also be responsible for handling switchboard operations, directing calls appropriately, managing visitor access, and supporting general office administration. Applicants must possess a Grade 12 qualification, with a post-matric qualification considered an added advantage, along with three years of relevant reception and switchboard experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, excellent communication skills, and strong organisational abilities are essential for this role. Position Objective
To act as the first point of contact and provide friendly, welcoming, and efficient service to SANRAL visitors and callers. To manage and coordinate front desk activities and switchboard operations, ensuring professionalism and efficiency in all reception and administrative duties.
Minimum Requirements
- National Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
- A post-matric qualification will be an added advantage.
- Three (3) years of reception and switchboard experience.
- Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Technical Competencies
- Familiarity with phone systems and switchboard operation.
- Knowledge of general office machines (copiers, printers, etc.).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong verbal communication and telephone etiquette.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and welcome visitors; determine nature of business and direct appropriately.
- Notify relevant SANRAL personnel of visitor arrival and liaise with security.
- Maintain visitor logbooks and issue badges.
- Keep the reception area tidy, neat, and well-stocked.
- Receive mail, parcels, and courier deliveries.
- Manage switchboard operations — answer, transfer, and take messages professionally.
- Maintain and update telephone lists and boardroom bookings.
- Assist with administrative duties, including stationery, travel arrangements, and meeting coordination.
- Participate in emergency evacuations (OHS team) and assist with general office support.
