Position Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all designated municipal facilities under the department’s control are maintained to high cleanliness and hygiene standards. The position requires an individual who is disciplined, physically fit, reliable, and capable of working independently while following structured instructions from supervisors and management.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria to be considered for appointment:
- Grade 10 qualification.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
The appointed General Worker will be responsible for ensuring that municipal facilities remain clean, orderly, and conducive to a professional work environment. The duties associated with this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
Cleaning and Hygiene Maintenance
- Cleaning and maintaining offices, bathrooms, corridors, stockrooms, kitchens, and any other designated areas within the department.
- Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming floors to ensure cleanliness and hygiene standards are upheld.
- Dusting and wiping furniture, desks, shelves, window sills, and office equipment.
- Cleaning restrooms thoroughly, including basins, toilets, mirrors, and floors, while ensuring that hygiene supplies are replenished.
- Ensuring kitchen and tea areas are cleaned and sanitized regularly.
Waste Management
- Emptying waste bins daily and replacing bin liners.
- Disposing of general office waste in accordance with municipal waste management procedures.
- Ensuring proper segregation and disposal of refuse as required by internal guidelines.
- Maintaining cleanliness in refuse storage areas and ensuring waste is removed timeously.
Hospitality and Support Services
- Serving tea and coffee to departmental staff and visitors when required.
- Assisting with the preparation and serving of refreshments during meetings or official events.
- Preparing boardrooms and meeting venues, including cleaning surfaces, arranging chairs and tables, and placing water decanters and glasses.
- Ensuring meeting venues are cleaned and restored after use.
General Assistance and Ad Hoc Duties
- Assisting with minor administrative support duties once cleaning tasks are completed, where required.
- Supporting departmental operations by carrying out reasonable instructions from supervisors or management.
- Performing any additional ad hoc tasks that may be necessary to ensure smooth operations within the department.
The role demands flexibility, initiative, and a willingness to assist wherever operational needs arise.
Knowledge and Competencies
