Job Overview

Key Responsibilities
Access Control and Visitor Management

Security Officers will be responsible for ensuring that all access to the premises is controlled and monitored according to security procedures.

Responsibilities include:

• Determining whether visitors have appointments or legitimate reasons for visiting the organisation.

• Contacting relevant employees to confirm appointments before allowing visitors to enter the premises.

• Directing visitors to the correct service delivery point or department.

• Completing or ensuring the completion of the admission control register.

• Issuing visitor admission cards or access documents where required.

• Escorting visitors to relevant employees, meeting rooms, or venues when necessary.

• Operating X-ray machines or security screening equipment where applicable.

• Locking and unlocking entrances according to security procedures.

• Monitoring entrances and exits to prevent unauthorised access.

• Identifying suspicious behaviour or unusual activities.

• Ensuring that unauthorised persons or dangerous goods do not enter the premises.

• Following up on incidents and recording them in the incident register.

Building and Premises Security

Security Officers will be responsible for ensuring that the buildings and surrounding premises remain safe and secure at all times.

Responsibilities include:

• Conducting routine patrols of buildings and premises.

• Checking that doors and access points are locked or unlocked where necessary.

• Identifying water leaks or ensuring that taps are closed.

• Monitoring potential fire hazards such as exposed electrical contacts or hazardous chemicals.

• Ensuring lights are switched on or off where necessary.

• Inspecting areas for suspicious objects or unattended packages.

• Reporting safety hazards or suspicious items discovered during patrols.

• Applying emergency evacuation procedures according to organisational policies.

Asset Protection and Control

Security Officers will assist in protecting the organisation’s equipment, documents, and other assets.

Responsibilities include:

• Completing or ensuring that registers used to track the movement of assets and equipment are properly maintained.

• Ensuring that no equipment or assets leave the premises without authorisation.

• Inspecting vehicles entering or leaving the premises when required.
