Security Officer – Department of Justice and Constitutional Development

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DOJ&CD) is seeking qualified and dedicated candidates for the position of Security Officer at the Magistrate’s Office in Welkom, Free State. POSITION: Security Officer

REFERENCE NUMBER: 25/33/FS

SALARY: R163 680 – R192 810 per annum. The successful candidate will be required to sign a performance agreement.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Educational Qualification: Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Knowledge:
    • In-depth understanding of Physical Security procedures and processes.
    • Familiarity with Safety and Security Legislative Frameworks.
    • Registered with PSIRA (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority) at Grade C level.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with staff, visitors, and management.
    • Problem-solving abilities to address security-related issues promptly and efficiently.
    • Excellent interpersonal relations to foster a professional and cooperative work environment.
    • Planning and organizing skills to manage security tasks and schedules effectively.
    • Computer literacy for operating security systems and maintaining records.
    • Proficiency in operating security equipment such as CCTV systems, access control devices, and biometric systems.
    • Understanding of confidentiality principles within a government context to ensure sensitive information is protected.
DUTIES

Key Performance Areas:

  • Access Control: Monitor and regulate entry and exit points to ensure only authorized personnel gain access to the premises.
  • Enhancing Safety: Implement measures to maintain a safe environment within the building or premises, identifying and mitigating potential risks.
  • Prohibiting Unauthorized Items: Conduct thorough checks to prevent unauthorized items from entering or leaving the premises, ensuring compliance with security protocols.
  • CCTV Monitoring: Actively monitor CCTV cameras to detect and respond to suspicious activities in real-time.
  • Biometric System Management: Enroll staff on the biometric system and maintain accurate records to facilitate secure access control.
  • Weekend Access Support: Provide access to staff requiring entry to the premises over weekends, ensuring operational continuity while maintaining security standards.
