SHERQ Officer – Environmental & Risk (FLM) Available Position

Position: SHERQ Officer – Environmental & Risk (FLM)
Location: Noodsberg Mill, reporting to the SHERQ Manager
Department: SHERQ (Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, and Quality)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and promote the Illovo Way of Environmental & Risk performance, ensuring compliance with standards, systems, and legislation (e.g., NEMA Act).
  • Engage with external stakeholders (e.g., Department of Water and Sanitation, EDTEA, Air Quality Officers).
  • Support site compliance through coaching, communication, and monitoring of Environmental & Risk standards.
  • Conduct impact and aspect assessments, facilitate mitigation plans, and coordinate investigations and audits.
  • Maintain ISO 14001 and external assurance systems, including updating procedures and ensuring compliance.
  • Develop and deliver Environmental & Risk awareness programs (e.g., toolbox talks, community outreach).
  • Manage emergency response protocols and site Business Continuity Management Plan (BCMP).
  • Compile and submit environmental management reports as per regulatory requirements.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Diploma/Degree in Environmental Science or related field (SAMTRAC and ISO 14001 Lead Auditor qualifications are advantageous).
  • Experience: 2-3 years in an operational environment (factory/agriculture) in an Environmental & Risk role, including emergency management and site security.
  • Skills: Knowledge of relevant legislation, planning, problem-solving, analytical skills, report writing, MS Office proficiency, and strong interpersonal/communication skills.
  • Other: Valid driver’s license.
