The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development invites suitably qualified and competent individuals to apply for the position advertised. This opportunity is aimed at candidates who meet the required criteria and are willing to contribute effectively within the justice system.

POSITION: Casual Court Interpreter
VACANCIES: CIT/52/SEC
REFERENCE: CASUAL COURT INTERPRETER
CENTRE: Magistrate’s Court, Kirkwood, Eastern Cape
SALARY: R150.38 per hour
(The successful candidates may be utilised for up to 24 hours per month)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Matric/Grade 12
  • Proficiency in one or more indigenous languages (preference will be given to languages used in the area: Afrikaans and Xhosa) as well as English
  • Shortlisted candidates must pass a written language test (in one of the listed languages) as well as a sign language test (to be interviewed)

Skills and Competencies:

  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain interpersonal relations

DUTIES:

  • Interpret in court of law (Criminal and Civil cases)
  • Interpret in confessions, commissions, and tribunals and family law
  • Record cases in criminal record book
  • File records of cases disposed of
  • Draw case records on request of the Prosecutors, Magistrate, Principal Court Interpreter and Court Manager
  • Translate legal documents and documentary exhibits used in court
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time in terms of rationalisation of the office
