Canteen General Assistant – (12-Month Fixed Contract)
Are you a motivated and reliable individual with a passion for delivering exceptional service? We’re looking for a dynamic General Assistant to join our inhouse canteen team at our call center based in the hub of Umhlanga!
We require an individual with good interpersonal skills, attention to detail, good hand-eye coordination, and a passion for practical and methodical work. You must be honest, trustworthy, and able to work as an all-rounder within the canteen team. Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team are key to ensuring excellent service with a smile. Key Responsibilities:
- Performing routine tasks that may involve the use of chemicals, hand-held tools, machinery, and equipment, which may require some physical effort.
- Cleaning of kitchen and/or dining halls.
- Washing of kitchen utensils, crockery, cutlery, and vending machines.
- Reporting repairs and maintenance issues.
- Venue setups and clean-ups for functions (e.g., chairs) as needed.
- Specialized cleaning and ad-hoc services as required.
- Unloading and distribution of consumables and cleaning materials as needed.
- Ensuring housekeeping is done in accordance with procedures.
- Waste removal.
- Ensuring that service delivery within the Centenary Café is always maintained.
- Cleaning food preparation, equipment, and serving areas after every meal service.
- Adhering to Food Safety Management Practices and Standards in the kitchen and dining halls.
- Ensuring cleaning standards, machinery, equipment, personal hygiene, and food safety are maintained.
- Always applying safe working procedures.
- Undertaking duties and tasks as prescribed from time to time.
- Willingness to work overtime or on weekends as required.
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric advantageous
- At least 1 to 2 years of prior experience as a general assistant within an inhouse canteen environment, restaurant, or similar industry
- Culinary qualification would be advantageous
- Must be employed within the company for a minimum of 6 months
- Must have achieved the following over the last 3 months:
- 90% average attendance record
- No active warnings on file
- Not currently on any performance programs
