CEF SOC Hiring Cleaners – 14 Positions Available

CEF SOC invites interested and suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Cleaner (Fourteen Posts) on a three-year fixed term contract at the SANPC Refinery in Durban. This opportunity is open to individuals who are committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and workplace safety, while ensuring that facilities remain well maintained and presentable at all times.

The role requires responsible individuals who can perform general cleaning duties, manage cleaning equipment and supplies, and support daily operational requirements with minimal supervision. CEF is a Schedule 2 State-Owned diversified energy company reporting to the Department of Mineral & Petroleum Resources. The mandate of CEF is to contribute to the security of energy supply of South Africa and the region through exploration, acquisition, development, marketing and strategic partnerships. This mandate is derived from the CEF Act (No. 38 of 1977) and subsequent Ministerial directives.

JOB PURPOSE

The Cleaner is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, managing cleaning equipment, maintaining hygiene standards, and performing specialised tasks such as floor waxing or window washing, often with minimal supervision.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Matric (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience as a Cleaner or in a similar role.
DESIRED ADDITIONAL SKILLS / COMPETENCIES
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Excellent time management and ability to complete tasks thoroughly.
  • Physical stamina for manual labour and extended periods of standing, bending, and lifting.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
General Cleaning
  • Perform general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and sanitising surfaces.
  • Empty trash bins, dispose of waste in designated areas, and wash bins in all offices.
  • Maintain cleanliness of bathrooms, offices, kitchens, and common areas.
  • Follow cleaning schedules and procedures as outlined by the supervisor.
  • Wash windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces.
  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment (vacuums, floor buffers).
  • Perform ad-hoc duties as required.
  • Replenish cleaning materials.
Replenishing Supplies
  • Replenish cleaning supplies, toilet paper, hand soap, hand towels, and other hygiene materials.
  • Manage cleaning supplies allocated to work areas.
  • Monitor cleaning materials and request re-orders through the Supervisor.
Meeting Room Preparation
  • Prepare meeting rooms according to departmental requirements.
  • Ensure meeting rooms are cleaned daily.
  • Ensure coffee, tea, sugar, milk, and hot water are replenished.
Health and Safety
  • Comply with health and safety regulations and use cleaning chemicals safely.
  • Report any defects that may affect the security of the building to the supervisor.

NB: Preference may be given to candidates residing in the Province of KwaZulu-Natal.
