DARD: Animal Health Technician Vacancies 2026 – X18 Posts

The Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development invites interested and suitably qualified candidates to apply for 18 Animal Health Technician vacancies available across various districts in Limpopo Province. The positions are available in Capricorn, Mopani, Vhembe, Waterberg and Sekhukhune Districts, offering successful applicants an opportunity to contribute towards animal health services, disease control programmes and agricultural development within the province.

Applicants must possess Grade 12 together with an appropriate NQF Level 6 qualification in Animal Health or an equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA. Registration with the South African Veterinary Council as an Animal Health Technician is compulsory, while no previous work experience is required. Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • Appropriate qualification at NQF Level 6 in Animal Health or equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA
  • Current registration with the South African Veterinary Council as an Animal Health Technician
  • Valid driver’s licence, except for persons living with disabilities
  • No experience required

Job Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Rendering Animal Health Regulatory Support Services in terms of the Animal Diseases Act
  • Implementing disease control measures
  • Supporting State Veterinarians regarding animal disease control
  • Assisting with reproduction and production advancement programmes
  • Collecting samples and supporting law enforcement activities
  • Providing extension services on animal health to livestock owners
  • Capturing information on databases
  • Compiling and submitting monthly and quarterly reports
  • Performing administrative and related duties

NOTE

Applicants submitting printed hard copy applications must use the latest Z83 Application for Employment Form issued by the Minister for the Public Service and Administration in line with Regulation 10 of the Public Service Regulations, 2016, as amended. Failure to use the correct Z83 form may result in disqualification. The Z83 form must be completed properly and provide sufficient information regarding the applicant and the position applied for. All fields in Parts A, B, C and D of the Z83 form must be completed. In Part B, South African applicants are not required to provide passport numbers. If an applicant answers “No” to the question regarding conducting business with the State, the follow-up question regarding relinquishing business interests may be left blank or marked as not applicable. Applicants whose profession does not require official registration may leave the registration section blank or indicate “Not Applicable.”

Due to limited space on the Z83 form, applicants may indicate “Refer to CV” or “See Attached CV” in Parts E, F and G, provided that the attached curriculum vitae contains all required information. Failure to include the required information in the CV may lead to disqualification. The CV serves as an extension of the Z83 application form, and applicants remain responsible for all information submitted.

Applicants currently employed in the public service are not required to complete the section relating to conditions preventing re-appointment. Applications must include only a completed and signed Z83 form together with a recently updated comprehensive CV detailing previous work experience. Certified copies of qualifications, identity document, senior certificate and driver’s licence, where applicable, will only be requested from shortlisted candidates before the interview date.

Applicants applying for more than one position must submit separate applications for each post. Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates only. If applicants do not receive feedback within 90 days after the closing date, the application should be regarded as unsuccessful.

Applicants may request reasons for any administrative action affecting them negatively in terms of the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act 3 of 2000. By applying for the post, applicants consent to personnel suitability checks including verification of qualifications, previous employment, citizenship, references, financial checks and security vetting.

Candidates with foreign qualifications must attach SAQA evaluation certificates. Shortlisted candidates, including SMS candidates, will undergo pre-entry assessments. One assessment will evaluate technical and generic competencies related to the post, while another assessment will focus on integrity and ethical conduct.

Successful candidates will be required to sign a performance agreement within three months of appointment and disclose financial interests in accordance with prescribed regulations. Failure to comply with the requirements may result in disqualification.

Due to austerity measures, the department will not cover transport, accommodation or meal costs for candidates attending interviews.
