SE Holdings is a South African agribusiness and farmer-development company with an agro-processing operation focused on establishing a new bean cleaning facility.
The facility will receive dry beans from farmers before the products are cleaned, graded, packed and delivered to food manufacturing customers. The operation is being developed around disciplined processes, food safety and full product traceability.
The Delivery Truck Driver will form an important part of the logistics and distribution process by ensuring that cleaned and packed products reach customers safely, on time and in good condition.
Purpose of the Role
The purpose of the Delivery Truck Driver position is to transport cleaned and packed beans from the bean cleaning facility to customer locations according to established delivery schedules and booking slots.
The successful candidate will be expected to handle deliveries professionally and responsibly, while maintaining high standards of road safety, food safety, load security and documentation.
The role requires a driver who can operate a heavy vehicle safely, follow delivery instructions, communicate professionally with customers and ensure that all required paperwork is completed accurately.
Key Responsibilities
The appointed Delivery Truck Driver will be responsible for delivering cleaned and packed products from the facility to customer sites in accordance with scheduled delivery times and booking arrangements.
Duties will include conducting daily pre-trip inspections of the truck before departure. This includes checking important components such as tyres, brakes, lights, fluids and the load body. Any defects or mechanical concerns must be reported before the vehicle leaves the facility.
The driver will also be required to verify that the load corresponds with the delivery documentation. Checks must include the quantity, batch numbers and condition of the product before departure.
Maintaining a clean and suitable load body is another important responsibility. The load body must remain clean, dry and free from potential contamination. Products must also be properly secured and covered to prevent damage or contamination during transportation.
At customer sites, the driver will be required to follow receiving procedures, site safety rules and applicable hygiene requirements. Professional conduct is expected when interacting with customers, warehouse personnel and other site representatives.
The driver must obtain signed proof of delivery documentation after completing each delivery and return all relevant documents to the Stores and Dispatch Coordinator.
Any delays, incidents, accidents, shortages or product damage must be reported immediately to the appropriate person.
The successful candidate must operate the vehicle safely and in accordance with applicable road laws. This includes observing speed limits, required rest periods and legal load limits.
Accurate vehicle logbooks, fuel records and trip sheets must also be maintained and kept up to date.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants interested in the Delivery Truck Driver position must meet the required licensing and experience criteria.
- A valid Code EC (14) driver’s licence, as applicable to the vehicle, is required.
- Applicants must also have a valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) for goods, category G. Applications without the required driver’s licence and PrDP will not be considered.
- At least three years of truck driving experience is required. Experience delivering to factories, distribution centres or retailers will be advantageous.
- Candidates must have a clean driving record with no major traffic offences.
- A minimum of Grade 10 is required, while Grade 12 will be advantageous.
- Applicants should have good knowledge of local and national routes and be capable of planning and following delivery routes effectively.
- The role also requires the ability to complete delivery documentation accurately and communicate professionally with customers and other stakeholders.
- Candidates must be medically fit to drive and willing to undergo medical and alcohol testing as part of the recruitment and employment process.
Advantageous Experience and Skills
Certain additional qualifications and experience will strengthen an application.
Experience transporting food products or agricultural produce, particularly deliveries to large food manufacturing companies, will be advantageous.
Candidates with experience securing loads and using tarpaulins to cover bagged products may have an advantage.
Defensive driving training will also be beneficial for the position.
A valid forklift operator certificate is another advantageous qualification.
