Department of Basic Education: Security Guards – 8 Positions

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) is inviting applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates for 8 Security Guard positions in Pretoria. The positions are offered on a 12-month renewable contract within the Branch: Finance and Administration, Chief Directorate: Finance Management Services, Directorate: Security and Asset Management.

Requirements

Applicants must meet the requirements below:

  • Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Valid PSIRA registration.
  • Security training from an accredited security training provider.
  • Security qualification/training at Grade A, B, C or D level.
  • Fire Fighting and First Aid certificate will be an added advantage.
  • Clean criminal record.
  • Knowledge of access and egress control.
  • Knowledge of security patrol and surveillance techniques.
  • Ability to monitor CCTV and alarm systems.
  • Knowledge of incident and emergency response procedures.
  • Knowledge of visitor and vehicle management.
  • Knowledge of key and access control management.
  • Good verbal communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidates will be responsible for the following:

  • Guard and protect people, property and information.
  • Conduct regular security patrols.
  • Monitor CCTV systems.
  • Monitor alarm systems and respond to alerts.
  • Search persons, vehicles or property where legally authorised.
  • Respond to security incidents and emergencies.
  • Maintain the Occurrence Book (OB).
  • Complete and maintain incident reports.
  • Enforce organisational security procedures.
  • Report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities or officials.
  • Report security breaches and incidents.
  • Assist with managing security operations within the Department.
  • Control access and egress to departmental premises.
  • Monitor visitors and vehicles entering and leaving the premises.
  • Manage keys and access control in accordance with established procedures.
  • Identify potential security risks and take appropriate action.
  • Escalate serious incidents through the correct reporting channels.
  • Work with SAPS and other security stakeholders when required.
  • Maintain professionalism when dealing with departmental officials, visitors and members of the public.
Application Process

Applications must be submitted using the most recently approved Z83 Application for Employment Form. The current Z83 form can be obtained from the Department of Basic Education website or any Public Service Department website.

Important: Applicants must not use the old Z83 form. Use of the old Z83 form will result in disqualification.

The Z83 must be completed in full and page 2 must be signed. A clear indication of the position and reference number being applied for must be included on the Z83.
