About the Opportunity

The Department of Water and Sanitation is responsible for managing South Africa’s water resources and ensuring sustainable water and sanitation services across the country.

The Driver will provide transport and messenger services, ensuring the safe transportation of officials, documents, and goods while maintaining departmental vehicles in good working condition. The successful candidate will also support daily operational activities within the office.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 10 certificate.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in driver or messenger services.
  • A valid, unexpired South African driver’s licence.
  • Basic literacy skills, including the ability to read and write.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to perform duties under pressure and with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to travel and work irregular hours when required.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Driver will transport departmental officials safely to and from various destinations while ensuring compliance with road safety regulations.

The successful applicant will inspect departmental vehicles before and after trips to ensure they remain roadworthy.

Vehicle logbooks must be completed accurately, and all fuel slips, oil records, and related administrative documents must be maintained.

The Driver will also arrange for vehicles to be serviced and repaired when required.

Additional responsibilities include assisting with the loading and offloading of goods and equipment used by the department.

The successful candidate may also be required to provide transport support for school children as part of departmental operations.

Keeping vehicles clean, safe, and in good mechanical condition will form an important part of the daily responsibilities.
