The Free State Department of Public Works and Infrastructure invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for Security Officer and Senior Security Officer positions within the Security Services Directorate. Security Officer (Ref No: PWI 26/10) (3 Posts)

Directorate: Security Services
Salary: R168 680 per annum (Level 03)
Centre: Thabo Mofutsanyane Region

Minimum Requirements
  • A formal qualification at NQF Level 3 or equivalent is required.
  • Registration with PSIRA Grade C is compulsory.
  • Successful candidates will be subjected to a security clearance process prior to appointment.
Key Responsibilities

The Security Officer will be responsible for implementing access control procedures at departmental facilities and ensuring safety within buildings and surrounding premises. Duties include preventing unauthorized removal or entry of equipment, documents, and stores. All incidents must be recorded accurately in occurrence books or registers as part of daily operational compliance.

Additional responsibilities include operating control room security equipment and supporting general security operations to safeguard departmental infrastructure and assets.


Senior Security Officer (Ref No: PWI 26/09) (1 Post)

Salary: R228 321 per annum (Level 05)
Centre: Thabo Mofutsanyane Region

Minimum Requirements
  • Applicants must possess Grade 12 (or equivalent) together with 2 to 3 years of relevant security experience.
  • Registration with PSIRA Grade A is required.
  • Appointment remains subject to successful completion of a security clearance process.
Key Responsibilities

The Senior Security Officer will supervise security functions performed by security personnel and ensure compliance with departmental security policies and procedures. Responsibilities include managing access control systems, ensuring safety across departmental buildings and premises, and authorizing movement of equipment, documents, and stores.

The role also involves overseeing administrative functions such as approving leave, preparing duty rosters, managing shift schedules, coordinating overtime, monitoring employee performance, and identifying staff training requirements. Contributions toward drafting and reviewing departmental security policies are expected.

Monitoring and maintenance of security systems form part of operational duties, including reporting faulty equipment and ensuring systems remain fully functional through scheduled servicing. Support must be provided during investigations by identifying risks and threats to departmental security and supplying relevant incident information to investigating officers.

Important Application Notes

Effective from 01 April 2026, all applicants are required to register and complete profiles on the departmental e-Recruitment system before submitting applications. The online profile replaces the approved Z83 application form and must be fully completed to ensure consideration.

Supporting documents such as copies of qualifications, National Senior Certificate, and identity documents must be uploaded onto the system. Certification of documents is not required at application stage but will be required before interviews.

Shortlisted candidates will undergo two compulsory pre-entry assessments. These include a practical exercise evaluating technical and generic competencies required for the post and an integrity assessment focusing on ethical conduct.

The department does not support the use of Artificial Intelligence tools during recruitment assessments unless sources are properly acknowledged. Applications found to violate this requirement may be disqualified.

Verification checks will be conducted on qualifications, criminal records, and South African citizenship status. Additional screening may be performed in accordance with the DPSA Directive effective 01 April 2024.
