A total of 150 Security Guard positions and 16 Security Guard Supervisor positions are available.

Position: Security Guard
Number of positions: 150
Stipend: R5,895.00 per month
Contract: Six months
The 150 Security Guard positions are distributed across the following areas:
- Emalahleni – 30 positions
- Vuyisile Mini – 22 positions
- Sakhisizwe – 15 positions
- Dr A.B. Xuma – 20 positions
- Enoch Mgijima – 43 positions
- Inxuba Yethemba – 20 positions
These positions involve protecting municipal buildings, facilities, equipment, employees, councillors, visitors and other municipal property. Security Guards will also be responsible for controlling access to municipal premises and monitoring possible risks and threats.
Security Guard Requirements
Applicants for the Security Guard positions must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 9
- Security Guard Qualification/Certificate, Grade D, recognised by the Security Industry Authority
- Valid PSIRA Certificate
- Police Clearance Certificate
- Proof of medical fitness from a registered medical practitioner
- Proof of residence from a Ward Councillor
- At least 12–18 months of relevant previous Security, Police or Military experience

Security Guard Responsibilities
Successful applicants may be required to perform a range of security and access-control duties at municipal facilities.
Responsibilities include safeguarding the asset and inventory register of a designated municipal site. Security Guards may also be required to record incoming and outgoing equipment and assets in the inventory control book.
The position also involves monitoring perceived risks and threats against municipal employees, councillors, important delegations and council property.
Security Guards will be responsible for safeguarding physical, mechanical, electronic and other forms of municipal assets located at various facilities. These may include municipal buildings, water service sites, pump stations, reservoirs, sewerage pumps, dams and revenue collection centres.
Another important responsibility is protecting and securing the entry and departure of people moving in and out of municipal buildings. Security personnel must apply security protocols within the municipality and ensure proper control of movements by employees, councillors and important delegations.
Other duties listed for the programme include:
- Safeguarding municipal assets and property
- Recording incoming and outgoing equipment and assets
- Updating occurrence registers
- Recording routine activities and incidents
- Controlling the entry and exit of personnel and visitors

2. Security Guard Supervisor x16
Position: Security Guard Supervisor
Number of positions: 16
Stipend: R9,441.17 per month
Contract: Six months
The Security Guard Supervisor programme is also part of the Expanded Public Works Programme.
The municipality originally published requirements for the position, but an erratum was later issued changing the requirements. Applicants should therefore use the amended requirements when applying.
Updated Security Guard Supervisor Requirements
According to the erratum, the requirements for the Security Guard Supervisor position are:
- Grade 11
- Security Guard Qualification/Certificate, Grade B, recognised by the Security Industry Authority
The erratum states that the closing date and everything else remains the same.
The position also requires candidates to have the relevant security experience and other documentation specified in the original advertisement.
The original advertisement listed the following additional requirements:
- Valid PSIRA Certificate
- Valid Firearm Competency Certificate
- Valid Driver’s Licence
- Police Clearance Certificate
- Proof of medical fitness from a registered medical practitioner
- Proof of residence from a Ward Councillor
- At least 2–3 years of relevant previous Security, Police or Military experience

Security Guard Supervisor Responsibilities
Security Guard Supervisors will have additional responsibilities compared with Security Guards.
The listed duties include preparing rosters and arranging reliever intervals. Supervisors will also monitor and ensure proper access control at the relevant municipal premises.
Another important responsibility is ensuring that an updated incident logbook is maintained. Accurate incident records are important for monitoring security matters and ensuring that incidents are properly documented.
Supervisors may also be expected to oversee security personnel and ensure that security procedures are followed correctly.
The wider security responsibilities include protecting municipal buildings, equipment, assets, employees, councillors, visitors and important delegations.

Important Information for Applicants
