The initiative reflects Exxaro’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where talented individuals are empowered to achieve their academic and professional aspirations.
Beyond financial support, the bursary programme encourages academic excellence, personal responsibility, and professional development. Students selected for the programme become part of an initiative that values education, growth, accountability, and long-term success.

What the Bursary Offers
The Exxaro Bursary Programme is intended to ease the financial burden associated with tertiary education and allow students to focus on achieving academic success. Financial support may include assistance with study-related expenses that are essential for successful completion of academic programmes.
The bursary provides an opportunity for students to pursue higher education without facing the full financial pressures often associated with tuition fees, educational resources, accommodation, and other study-related costs.
In addition to financial assistance, successful candidates may gain exposure to an organisation that places strong emphasis on learning, development, innovation, and inclusion. The programme seeks to prepare students for future opportunities by encouraging academic achievement and responsible participation throughout their studies.
Expectations of Successful Bursars
Recipients of the bursary are expected to demonstrate commitment to their studies and fulfil the responsibilities outlined in the bursary agreement.
Academic performance remains an important component of the programme. Bursars are expected to maintain the required academic standard and consistently work towards successful completion of their qualifications.
Attendance and participation in classes are essential. Students must attend lectures, complete assignments, participate in practical activities where required, and prepare for examinations according to the requirements of their institutions.
Regular academic progress updates must be submitted to the bursary office. These reports assist in monitoring performance and ensuring that students continue to receive the support needed to succeed.
Participation in bursary-related programmes, workshops, initiatives, or development opportunities may also form part of the bursary experience. Such activities are intended to enhance personal growth, professional readiness, and engagement with the broader objectives of the programme.
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful bursars will be expected to:
- Maintain academic performance in accordance with the requirements specified in the bursary agreement.
- Attend classes regularly and actively participate in academic activities.
- Complete coursework, assignments, projects, practical assessments, and examinations within prescribed deadlines.
- Submit academic transcripts and progress reports as requested.
- Participate in bursary-related initiatives organised by educational institutions or Exxaro where applicable.
- Uphold good conduct and maintain behaviour that reflects positively on the bursary programme.
- Fulfil any internship opportunities, service obligations, or work-back requirements that may apply after graduation.
- Inform the bursary office of any changes relating to academic programmes, institutions, contact information, or personal circumstances.
