
The National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) is inviting applications for two permanent General Assistant: Facilities Maintenance positions based at its Sunninghill office. This opportunity is suitable for experienced maintenance professionals with practical skills in building maintenance, plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, tiling, and painting. The successful candidates will support the Facilities Management Section by ensuring that NHBRC buildings, equipment, and facilities are maintained according to the required standards.

Job Purpose
The General Assistant: Facilities Maintenance will assist with maintenance, repairs, renovations, and general facilities management functions within the NHBRC. The role includes maintaining office buildings, equipment, and infrastructure while ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and organisational procedures.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be responsible for:
- Assisting with the maintenance and operation of plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, painting, and electrical systems.
- Carrying out office reconfigurations, furniture installations, and workspace adjustments using appropriate tools.
- Maintaining records of inventory, tools, and equipment.
- Monitoring and maintaining electrical, plumbing, air-conditioning, generators, lifts, and other building systems to maximise operational availability.
- Ensuring equipment and maintenance materials are stored correctly.
- Assisting with office furniture removals and relocations.
- Supporting the preparation of specifications for facilities management projects.
- Participating in project briefing sessions and assisting with project implementation.
- Coordinating maintenance activities and monitoring repairs until completion.
- Supervising contractors and service providers to ensure quality workmanship.
- Supporting preventative, corrective, and upgrade maintenance projects.
- Conducting building inspections and identifying maintenance requirements.
- Assisting the Facilities Manager with daily operational and project-related duties.
- Performing maintenance work at other NHBRC offices, including Hatfield (Tshwane) and Eric Molobi Office (Soshanguve).
- Following occupational health and safety regulations while carrying out maintenance duties.
- Conducting routine safety inspections and maintaining a safe working environment.
- Acting as a Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Representative when appointed.
- Acting as a First Aider when officially appointed.
- Assisting in identifying operational risks and implementing mitigation measures.
- Ensuring compliance with organisational policies and procedures.
- Monitoring contractors to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Maintaining good housekeeping standards throughout the workplace.
- Assisting with evaluating quotations from service providers.
- Verifying contractor work to minimise unnecessary expenditure.
- Assisting with petty cash requests for minor building repairs.
- Serving on Bid Specification Committees (BSC) and Bid Evaluation Committees (BEC) when required.
- Providing input on tender documentation for contractors and suppliers.
- Signing off completed job cards after confirming satisfactory work.
- Responding to maintenance requests promptly and professionally.
- Performing maintenance activities with minimal disruption to staff and visitors.
- Communicating effectively with employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Working closely with cleaning, gardening, security, and waste management personnel to maintain clean and hygienic facilities.
- Assisting with logistics-related functions, including mail deliveries to the Post Office and transporting documents for the Executive Manager.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
- Minimum N4 Certificate (NQF Level 5) in a vocational discipline.
- At least three years of facilities maintenance experience in a commercial or industrial environment.
- Practical skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, tiling, and painting.
- A Trade Test Certificate in Plumbing, Electrical, or Mechanical will be an added advantage.
