Purpose of Job

Performs labouring activities associated with providing support to logistical requirements with the preparation of equipment for loading and unloading of products and chemicals with general housekeeping activities.

Key Accountabilities

Safety

  • Correct identification and use of PPE
  • Participate in emergency preparedness exercises
  • Perform routine inspection on safety equipment and ensure maintenance where applicable
  • Conduct BAPP observations where applicable
  • Adhere to all safety and work standards
  • Conduct IMS inspections

Housekeeping

  • Cleaning of plant areas, benches, floors, PPE, glassware, etc., according to direct instruction and planned routine
  • Packing materials in storage areas (both instructed and routine)
  • Safe handling, stacking and storage of chemicals/dangerous materials (where applicable)
  • Safe handling, storage and transportation of gas cylinders (where applicable)
  • Loading and off-loading of vehicles
  • Ensure general neatness of area of responsibility
  • Perform tasks under direct supervision and as planned

General

  • Assist dedicated persons in performing discipline-specific tasks
  • Perform discipline-specific activities according to instruction
  • Deliver messages and parcels where applicable
  • Work overtime as and when required
  • Safe and correct use of hand tools and equipment
  • Safe handling of process chemicals and glassware where applicable
  • Ad hoc related tasks on request of more seniorior personnel
Formal Education
  • Grade 12 with Maths and Science
  • Code EC1 (Code 14) driving licence
  • Forklift driving licence will be an advantage
