Requirements
Qualifications and Competencies
- Minimum: Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
- Advantage: Exposure to hospital environment and patient care.
- Inherent Job Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and supplies.
- Comfortable working with heavy-duty laundry/cleaning equipment.
- Willingness to handle human excreta, fluids (including blood), and lift corpses of varying weights.
- Ability to operate machinery (e.g., lawnmowers, weed eaters).
- Capability to stand for up to 12 hours per day.
- Availability for shift work (including nights, weekends, and public holidays).
- Willingness to work extra hours on short notice.
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of Batho Pele Principles and Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 (OHS).
- Strong communication and customer care skills.
- Knowledge of waste management.
Key Responsibilities
General Duties
- Load and offload goods.
- Assist artisans and tradesmen aids.
- Maintain and clean tools.
- Upkeep of facility grounds.
Porter Duties
- Transport patients via stretcher or wheelchair to/from wards or departments.
- Carry patients as needed.
- Move corpses to the mortuary.
- Clean and perform minor maintenance on stretchers and wheelchairs.
Laundry Aid Duties
- Record incoming and outgoing linen daily for hospitals, clinics, and EMS services.
- Handle, receive, and dispatch soiled and clean linen per infection control protocols.
- Clean laundry areas and equipment daily.
- Adhere to Health and Safety Regulations.
Cleaner Duties
- Clean offices, passages, ablution facilities, and other areas.
- Empty dustbins and collect waste.
- Perform additional cleaning tasks as required.
- Maintain cleaning equipment and materials.
