
The KwaZulu-Natal Community Education and Training (CET) College invites unemployed South African graduates to apply for its Graduate Internship Programme for the 2026 to 2028 financial year. The programme is aimed at unemployed South African graduates who meet the qualification requirements for the available fields of exposure.
The internship programme provides graduates with an opportunity to gain practical workplace experience within a public education and training institution. Successful candidates will be appointed on a fixed-term contract for a period of 24 months and should be prepared to work or relocate anywhere within KwaZulu-Natal Province.

1. Marketing and Communications

Summary of Duties:
- Assist with the College’s marketing and communication strategy.
- Support student recruitment campaigns.
- Develop and distribute flyers, posters and brochures.
- Assist with updating the College website and social media platforms.

2. Law / Labour Relations

Summary of Duties:
- Assist with legal and labour relations matters.
- Conduct legal research and prepare written opinions and advisory notes.
- Assist with drafting and reviewing contracts, SLAs and policies.
- Monitor compliance with employment legislation and organisational policies.
- Maintain confidential legal and labour relations records.
- Assist with disciplinary and grievance hearings.
- Maintain registers for disciplinary, grievance and appeal cases.
- Assist with investigations and preparation of evidence bundles.
- Compile labour relations reports and statistics.
- Provide basic guidance on grievance and disciplinary procedures.
- Assist with mediation and conflict-resolution meetings.
- Research updates to labour legislation and relevant resolutions.
- Work with Centre Managers to ensure correct application of labour processes.
Summary of Duties
The successful candidate will assist with providing legal and labour relations support in accordance with applicable legislation and public-sector requirements.
Duties include assisting with matters relating to the Labour Relations Act (LRA), Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA) and other relevant public-sector legislation.
The intern may conduct legal research and assist with preparing written opinions, memoranda and advisory notes. Assistance may also be provided with drafting and reviewing contracts, service-level agreements and internal policies.
Monitoring compliance with employment legislation and organisational policies is another responsibility. The intern may also assist with reviewing procurement and governance documents for legal compliance where applicable.
Confidentiality and proper document management are important requirements of the role. The successful candidate may be required to maintain confidential legal and labour relations records in both manual and electronic formats.
The internship also provides exposure to disciplinary and grievance processes. Duties may include helping prepare notices of misconduct, suspension letters and hearing invitations in accordance with applicable disciplinary codes and resolutions.
The intern may support the Labour Relations Officer with coordinating disciplinary and grievance hearings. Attendance at hearings may be required to take notes and observe procedures as part of practical workplace learning.
Additional duties include capturing and maintaining a Labour Relations Register covering disciplinary, grievance and appeal cases. Case documentation must be securely filed and properly maintained.
The intern may track the progress of labour relations cases and follow up on outcomes with campuses and Human Resources. Assistance may also be required when compiling evidence bundles, investigation reports and case summaries.
Other responsibilities include helping update internal labour relations guidelines and providing employees with basic guidance regarding grievance procedures, codes of conduct and disciplinary rules.
The successful candidate may also assist with preparing awareness and training material on labour relations matters for campuses. Monthly and quarterly labour relations statistics may be compiled for submission to the Department of Higher Education and Training.
The position also provides exposure to identifying trends in labour relations cases, including absenteeism and misconduct matters. The intern may assist with preparing reports and recommendations for management.
Conflict-resolution activities may form part of the practical experience. Duties can include helping schedule mediation or intervention meetings, taking minutes and supporting facilitation during conflict-resolution sessions.
Research may also be conducted on updates to public-sector labour legislation, PSCBC and ELRC resolutions and relevant court cases.
The intern may work with Centre Managers to assist with the correct application of labour relations processes across the College.

The internship programme is intended for unemployed South African graduates who meet the qualification requirements for the relevant field of exposure.

A qualification in Marketing or Public Relations is required for the Marketing and Communications internship, while a qualification in Labour Relations or Industrial Psychology is required for the Law / Labour Relations internship.
Applicants should also be available to complete a 24-month fixed-term internship contract and be prepared to relocate anywhere within KwaZulu-Natal Province if required.
