The Legal Practice Council (LPC) is currently embarking on a process to fill vacant positions in the National Office, the Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Northern Cape Provincial Office.

Position: Risk Officer
Duration: 1-year fixed term contract

Minimum Appointment Requirements
Matric/Grade 12 Certificate; โ–ชNQF Level 7 in Risk Management / Compliance / Finance/ Law/; โ–ชNQF Level 8 in Risk Management / Compliance / Finance/ Law is an advantage; โ–ช3 yearsโ€™ experience in risk management or compliance, of which 2 years is in a supervisory capacity; โ–ช5 yearsโ€™ experience in risk management or compliance, within a legal environment, of which 2 years is in a supervisory position is an advantage; โ–ชLegal Practice Act, No 28 of 2014; โ–ชSection 109 Regulations; โ–ชCode of Conduct for all Legal Practitioners, Candidate Legal Practitioners and Juristic Entities; โ–ชRules of LPC; โ–ชRisk management; โ–ชCompliance Program (Management); โ–ชCorporate governance (King Reports); โ–ชRelevant Legislative Requirements for LPC; โ–ชThe following certificates are an advantage: Certified Risk Management Practitioner (IRMSA), Certified Compliance Practitioner (CISA), Certified Fraud Examiner (ACFE).

Key Responsibilities
Executing Risk Management Processes: Risk Identification, Risk Assessment, Risk Mitigation / Control, Risk Monitoring, Risk Reporting; โ–ชImplementation of the approved risk management plan; โ–ชAssist National Office and Provincial Offices with monitoring the risk register; โ–ชKeep abreast of trends in risk and compliance; โ–ชMonitor the implementation of risk management framework and policy; โ–ชAssist the Risk Champions on risk and compliance concerns escalated to National Office; โ–ชProduce reports on the following for review by Senior Manager Risk and Compliance: Progress against the approved risk management plan, Assessment of the risk maturity level achieved; โ–ชCoordinate training across LPC (National and Provincial) on risk management framework, and policy (including other policies related to Risk and Compliance Dept); โ–ชProvide inputs for the quarterly risk awareness articles for the LPC; โ–ชAssist in the preparation of the Risk and Compliance Committee agenda; โ–ชConsolidate the Risk and Compliance action list and submit it to the Senior Manager for review; โ–ชMonitor and update the LPC risk register; โ–ชAssist in the development of Risk and Compliance department policies; โ–ชAllocate workload and duties to subordinates; โ–ชMonitor individual performance, in accordance with performance objectives, daily; โ–ชParticipate in the performance review of subordinate and address areas of non-performance, make recommendations on staff development and training requirements; โ–ชProvide coaching to subordinates on work assignments; โ–ชCounsel staff to address discipline and workplace conflict in accordance with policy and procedure.

Receive correspondence for the department; โ–ช Sort, organize and maintain records of the department accuratelyโ–ช; Streamline document filing process ensuring their availability at all times; โ–ช Manage document structuring to ensure easy finding and retrieval when required; โ–ชMaintain a record of finalized files for storage; โ–ชCapture data into the system; Make copies of documents for the agenda; โ–ชComplete requisition for files used in the department; โ–ชLiaise with the document warehouse on the collection of documents/ files for offsite storage in accordance with company policy and procedure; โ–ชRetrieve files from archives;
โ–ชAssist in handling telephonic enquiries and walk-ins; โ–ชAssist in maintaining a proper filing system ensuring that correspondence and documents are accurately diarized and filed.
