Position: SHE Officer
Location: Gauteng – Sales and Marketing Division
The Role:
We are seeking a dynamic, experienced, and highly motivated SHE Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive health, safety, and environmental support to Distribution Centre Managers (16.2 Appointees) across the Sales and Marke ng Division, including the Gauteng DC, KZN Log Yard & Export DC, Western Cape DC (which includes the Copper Chromium Arsenic (CCA) Treatment Plant), and Port Elizabeth DC. Occasional travel will be required based on the level of risk at each site.
This role will drive compliance with HSE regulations, foster a safety-first culture, and address the unique challenges of timber distribution centres while aligning with the NOSA FIVE STAR Grading system.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Senior Certificate (Matric)/ The National Certificate Vocational NQF Level 4 Equivalent
- National Diploma in Health and Safety
- SAMTRAC certification is an added advantage
- Certificate on as a risk assessor is preferred
- A valid driver’s license is required
Knowledge and Skills:
- Minimum of 5 years of practical experience in a similar environment
- Up-to-date knowledge of relevant HSE legislation (OHS Act and Regulations, NEMA, COIDA, etc.), environmental regulations, and warehousing and shipping container site procedures.
- Expertise in implementing and sustaining ISO 45001, ISO 14001, or NOSA 5 STAR OHS management systems
- Strong contractor management skills
- Familiarity with CCA Treatment Plant compliance, including knowledge of relevant regulations and best practices (e.g., SANS 10255, health, safety, and environmental guidelines for the construction and opera on of timber treatment plants)
- Commitment to safety, service, and high levels of integrity
- Strong conflict management, negotiation, presentation, and report writing skills
- Knowledge of D365 or similar ERP systems
- Strong understanding of the COID Act and reporting requirements
- Experience in incident and accident investigations, specifically in conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodology to identify and address underlying safety issues
