OSS Hastings Learnership Opportunity
Successful candidates will enter into a fixed-term Learnership Agreement with OUTsurance. The agreement is a learning arrangement and does not constitute an employment contract. Learners will receive a monthly stipend of R9,000 during the programme.
No previous work experience is required, making this an opportunity for eligible unemployed youth who are looking to gain their first meaningful workplace experience.
About the Learnership
The learnership is structured around work-based learning and practical experience. Participants will have the opportunity to apply workplace skills in a professional environment while developing knowledge that can support future career opportunities.
The programme focuses on providing unemployed youth with exposure to the workplace and helping participants practise skills relevant to their chosen occupational path.
Candidates interested in call centre work and the financial and insurance industry may find the programme particularly relevant. The working environment requires individuals who can communicate professionally, interact with customers and colleagues, adapt to changing situations and remain productive while working under pressure.
The programme also includes dedicated training as part of the learning experience.
Monthly Stipend
Successful learners will receive a stipend of R9,000.
It is important to understand that the learnership is offered under a fixed-term Learnership Agreement rather than a permanent employment contract. The stipend is therefore associated with participation in the learnership programme.
Working Hours
The position requires flexibility because learners will work according to a predetermined roster.
The scheduled working arrangements include:
- Friday to Monday: 9-hour shifts
- Saturdays: 8-hour shifts
- Sundays: 5-hour shifts
- Two weekdays off each week
- Weekday days off may fall on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday
- One day during the week will be dedicated to full qualifications training on-site
Applicants should be comfortable working according to the roster and should understand that the role may include weekend and public holiday work.
The working schedule is structured to accommodate both practical workplace experience and formal training. Candidates therefore need to be prepared to participate actively in both components of the programme.
Public Holiday Requirements
Learners may be required to work a full day on a South African public holiday if the day falls within their allocated roster.
An exception applies where the relevant day is a public holiday in the United Kingdom.
Applicants should consider this requirement before applying and ensure that they are able to work according to the roster when scheduled.
Key Competencies
Applicants should demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication abilities and be comfortable working with different people in a professional environment.
The following competencies are important for the opportunity:
Strong Interpersonal Skills
The ability to communicate effectively and build positive working relationships is important in a call centre and customer-focused environment.
Initiative
Candidates should be willing to take initiative, identify what needs to be done and approach tasks with a proactive attitude.
Professional Engagement
Successful applicants are expected to interact with customers, colleagues and other stakeholders professionally. Professional communication and appropriate workplace conduct are essential.
Adaptability
The financial services and insurance environment can involve changing processes, customer needs and working requirements. Applicants should be able to adapt and respond positively to change.
Multitasking and Stress Management
Call centre environments can require employees to handle multiple tasks and customer interactions. Candidates should be able to remain focused and productive when dealing with pressure.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
