Main Purpose:

The successful candidate will be required to assist students who are experiencing personal difficulties, but not limited to, anxiety, stress, depression, behavioural concerns, grief, and trauma. The candidate will be required to facilitate group interventions and facilitate relevant trainings and workshops. The candidate will conduct research and publish within an area of interest and expertise. It is expected that the candidate will prepare reports for a range of committees within the faculty and also carry out administrative duties related to the job. Overall, the candidate is supporting students in their academic performance and thereby contributing to retention and throughput.

Requirements include:

  • A Psychology Masters degree.
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, for at least 2 years.
  • Passion for working with students.
  • Experience as a practising psychologist.
  • Experience of work in a tertiary institution.

Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Provide psychological and therapeutic services to undergraduate and post-graduate students in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
  • Consult with individual clients and also work with groups.
  • Drive initiatives to raise awareness and advocate on mental health issues.
  • Design intervention programmes.
  • Prepare documentation and reports for relevant committees.

Recommendations:

  • Experience in crisis intervention will be an added advantage.
  • Progress towards conceptualising a PhD or intention to register for a PhD is recommended.
