
The Mpumalanga Department of Economic Development and Tourism invites interested and suitably qualified applicants to apply for the position of Receptionist (REF NO: DEDT 2025/26/24) based in the Ehlanzeni District, Mbombela. The role requires a Grade 12 certificate, strong communication abilities, computer literacy, problem-solving skills and sound knowledge of Batho Pele principles, front office etiquette and telecommunication systems. The successful applicant will manage incoming and outgoing calls, provide onsite and online reception services, maintain essential records and directories, coordinate bookings, and ensure an orderly and professional reception area.

Requirements:

Duties:
- Attend to all incoming and outgoing telephone calls and direct them to the relevant office or official.
- Render both onsite and online reception services and ensure proper maintenance of equipment.
- Coordinate travel and meeting bookings, including telephonic enquiries.
- Maintain the District Office telephone directory and relevant files.
- Receive and re-route incoming mail and packages.
- Ensure visitors are verified with the relevant office before proceeding and that they sign in.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the reception area.

It is compulsory to complete all fields on the New Amended Z83 Form (No. 81/971431), effective from 01 January 2021. The form must be signed, initialled, and dated. Forms can be obtained from any National or Provincial Department or downloaded from the DPSA website. Applicants must indicate the Post and Reference Number on the Z83 form. The Z83 must be accompanied by a recent, updated CV with full personal details, experience, and three contactable referees. Applicants with foreign qualifications must ensure evaluation by SAQA and provide proof only when shortlisted. Applicants previously appointed in the public service must answer Part F regarding conditions preventing re-appointment.
Applications received after the closing date will not be accepted. Only shortlisted candidates will be required to submit certified documents before interviews. Candidates must be available for interviews on a date and venue determined by the Department. Shortlisted candidates will undergo practical assessments, security screening, criminal checks, citizenship and financial checks, qualifications verification, and previous employment reference checks. The successful candidate will sign an Annual Performance Agreement and annually disclose financial interests.
For SMS posts, completion of the Senior Management Pre-entry Programme through the National School of Government is compulsory before appointment. Following interviews and technical exercises, recommended candidates will undergo a generic managerial competency assessment conducted using DPSA-mandated tools.
Communication will be limited to shortlisted candidates. If no correspondence is received within three months after the closing date, the application should be considered unsuccessful. The Department reserves the right not to make an appointment.
