The South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) has announced 189 temporary employment opportunities under the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) funded Close the Gap Campaign. These vacancies are available across all nine provinces and offer an opportunity for experienced individuals to contribute to improving access to HIV, TB, STI and broader healthcare services in South Africa.
The project focuses on strengthening community mobilisation, civil society participation, stakeholder engagement, and evidence-based interventions that support better health outcomes. Suitable candidates with experience in community development, project coordination, health promotion, monitoring and evaluation, and advocacy are encouraged to submit their applications before the closing date.
These positions are project-funded and temporary, linked to the implementation of the Close the Gap Campaign.
About SANAC
The South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) is responsible for leading South Africa’s national response to HIV, AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB), and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). SANAC works together with government departments, civil society organisations, development partners, private sector stakeholders and communities to coordinate programmes aimed at reducing new infections, improving treatment access and strengthening healthcare systems.

1. Provincial Coordinator (9 Posts)
Location: Nine Provinces Nationwide
Reports To: Project Manager
Job Purpose
The Provincial Coordinator will oversee the implementation of the Close the Gap Campaign within the assigned province. The successful candidate will coordinate provincial project activities, strengthen partnerships with stakeholders, support sector structures, monitor implementation progress and ensure campaign objectives are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include coordinating provincial project implementation together with Sector Coordinators, supporting outreach campaigns, community dialogues and healthcare facility engagements. The role also involves monitoring project indicators, analysing programme performance, compiling reports, identifying implementation challenges and facilitating provincial planning and review meetings.
The Provincial Coordinator will maintain strong working relationships with provincial government departments, civil society leadership and community stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of project activities.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should possess:
- Grade 12 (Matric Certificate)
- Relevant qualifications will be advantageous
- Minimum three years’ experience in project coordination, community mobilisation or health advocacy
- Knowledge of HIV, TB, STIs and South African healthcare systems

2. Sector Coordinator (18 Posts)
Location: One position in each of the 18 recognised SANAC Civil Society Forum sectors
Reports To: Project Manager
Job Purpose
The Sector Coordinator will coordinate implementation of the Close the Gap Project within an assigned Civil Society Forum sector. This position focuses on strengthening sector participation, mobilising communities, coordinating activities and monitoring project performance.
Main Duties
Successful candidates will coordinate project implementation within their allocated sector, organise outreach campaigns, facilitate community dialogues, mobilise sector organisations and strengthen communication between provincial structures and SANAC.
Additional responsibilities include collecting activity reports, monitoring project performance, identifying implementation risks, supporting advocacy initiatives and representing the assigned sector during meetings and planning sessions.
Requirements
Applicants should have:
- At least three years’ experience in project coordination, community mobilisation or health advocacy
- Demonstrated involvement within the relevant civil society sector
- Good understanding of HIV, TB, STIs and public health systems
- Experience preparing reports
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Relevant post-school qualification will be advantageous
3. Sector Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Assistant (18 Posts)
Location: One position per recognised SANAC Civil Society Forum sector
Reports To: Sector Coordinator
Job Purpose
The Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant will support data collection, validation, analysis and reporting activities to measure project performance and ensure accurate reporting across the assigned sector.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will collect project information from implementing partners, validate activity data, maintain databases, update indicator trackers and prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly reports.
Other duties include analysing project performance, identifying trends, supporting data quality assessments, documenting success stories, providing support during training sessions and ensuring reporting requirements are met.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates should possess:
- Grade 12 (Matric Certificate)
- Experience in Monitoring and Evaluation
- Minimum two years’ experience in data management and reporting
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Knowledge of HIV, TB, STI programmes and community health initiatives
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Monitoring and Evaluation training will be advantageous
4. Demand Generation Mobiliser (144 Posts)
Location: Eight positions in each of the 18 recognised SANAC Civil Society Forum sectors
Reports To: Sector Coordinator
Job Purpose
Demand Generation Mobilisers will work directly with communities to encourage participation in Close the Gap Campaign activities, improve awareness of healthcare services and promote access to HIV, TB and STI prevention, treatment and support services.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will mobilise communities for outreach campaigns, organise community dialogues, support healthcare facility engagements and conduct health awareness sessions.
Additional duties include referring community members to health and social services, building relationships with local organisations and community leaders, collecting attendance registers, maintaining referral records, documenting community challenges and preparing regular activity reports.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should have:
- Experience in community mobilisation, health promotion or community development
- Minimum two years’ relevant experience
- Knowledge of HIV, TB, STIs and local community dynamics
- Strong communication and facilitation skills
- Ability to travel within the allocated area
- Community development or health-related training will be advantageous
- Cultural sensitivity and emotional intelligence
