The company is looking for vigilant, disciplined, and professional individuals to provide security services in accordance with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001. Purpose of the Position
- Provide professional security services according to PSIRA regulations
- Protect company assets, property, staff, and customers
- Identify suspicious activities and potential criminal behaviour
- Maintain a safe and secure retail environment
- Follow Dis-Chem security procedures and industry best practices
Minimum Requirements
Essential Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric / Senior Certificate
- Grade C PSIRA accreditation
- Minimum 3 years exposure in the retail industry (shopping malls, warehouses, stores, etc.)
Advantageous
- At least 1 year experience in a similar security guard role
Key Responsibilities
- Remain vigilant and alert to identify suspicious behaviour or criminal activity
- Conduct regular patrols of the premises to maintain visibility and reduce security risks
- Monitor and control access points for vehicles and pedestrians
- Ensure only authorized individuals enter the premises
- Investigate and report signs of damage or unlawful entry
- Maintain a visible presence to discourage theft and criminal behaviour
- Provide professional and courteous assistance to customers and visitors
- Conduct staff, supplier, and merchandiser searches according to procedures
- Complete security registers and occurrence books accurately
- Monitor staff purchases and declared goods
- Supervise refuse removal in line with company procedures
- Protect company property from theft, damage, or malicious activity
- Remain at the assigned post during working hours
- Maintain positive relations with customers and staff
- Report suspicious behaviour by employees, customers, or suppliers
Opening and Closing Duties
- Be present and alert during store opening and closing
- Ensure all doors and windows are locked after closing
- Check that water taps are turned off where applicable
- Monitor staff movements during opening and closing procedures
- Ensure the store premises are secure at the end of each day
Search and Inspection Duties
- Conduct daily personnel frisking
- Perform vehicle searches throughout the day
- Inspect deliveries and goods entering or leaving the premises
- Check declared goods and staff purchases
Incident Reporting Responsibilities
- Report suspicious incidents verbally to management immediately
- Submit written reports detailing incidents and observations
- Document unusual occurrences and daily security activities
- Maintain accurate security records for investigation purposes
Emergency and Crisis Response
- Contact police and emergency authorities when necessary
- Assist emergency teams such as first responders and managers
- Maintain order during evacuations and emergency situations
- Guide people to assembly points safely
- Prevent panic or disorder during emergencies
- Submit detailed reports following incidents
Surveillance and Monitoring Duties
- Monitor alarm systems and CCTV cameras
- Operate security detection equipment
- Conduct night patrols or after-hours surveillance
- Investigate suspicious activities detected through monitoring systems
- Ensure only authorized access to the premises at all times
Safety and Prevention Responsibilities
- Provide safety advice and security awareness to staff
- Identify security weaknesses and report them to management
- Enforce rules and regulations to prevent criminal activity
- Act quickly when suspicious activities are detected
- Remain alert during all working hours
Additional Duties
- Receive and respond to phone calls related to security matters
- Respond to messages and communications from management
- Assist with errands and departmental tasks when required
- Support operational security procedures within the store
Required Competencies

Language Requirement
- Ability to read, write, and speak English well

Special Conditions of Employment
- Must be PSIRA registered
- Must hold Grade C PSIRA accreditation
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must pass MIE criminal and credit checks
- Driver’s license, PDP, and reliable transport required if deployed as a driver
