Duties
- Access control: Verify appointments, issue admission documents/cards, escort visitors, and prevent unauthorized entry.
- Incident follow-up: Investigate and report incidents within premises.
- Building patrols: Inspect doors, taps, electrical contacts, fire hazards, suspicious packages, and lighting.
- Emergency procedures: Apply departmental emergency protocols when required.
- Asset protection: Safeguard equipment, documents, and stores. Maintain registers for movement of departmental assets.
- Vehicle inspections: Monitor vehicles entering and leaving premises.
- Document handling: Manage classified documents at points of entry according to prescribed standards.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit certified copies of qualifications and other relevant documents, such as a Permanent Resident Permit for non-RSA citizens or Permanent Resident Permit holders, to Human Resources on or before the interview date. Selected candidates will undergo personnel suitability checks, which include criminal record verification, citizenship verification, financial and asset record checks, qualification and study verification, and previous employment verification.
All shortlisted candidates, including those applying for SMS positions, will undertake two pre-entry assessments. One assessment will be a practical exercise to determine suitability based on the technical and generic requirements of the post, while the other will be an integrity assessment to evaluate ethical conduct. The Selection Panel may recommend candidates to attend a generic Managerial Competency Assessment in compliance with the DPSA Directive on the implementation of competency-based assessment. Successful candidates will also be subjected to security clearance processes. Where applicable, candidates will undergo a skills or knowledge test. The competency assessment will test generic managerial competencies using the mandated DPSA SMS competency assessment tools. An SMS pre-entry certificate (Nyukela) must be submitted prior to appointment, and full details can be sourced from the National School of Government website.
Successful candidates will be appointed on a probation period of twelve to twenty-four months. The department aims to address Employment Equity Affirmative Action Measures in line with its Employment Equity Plan to achieve equitable representation across race and gender.
