Position Overview
As a Security Officer within the Free State High Court, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the premises, staff, visitors, and assets within the building. You will perform vital access control functions, monitor security equipment, and ensure compliance with all relevant security policies and procedures. Your role is critical in creating a secure environment that allows the judicial process to operate without interruption.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct access control duties by monitoring and controlling entry and exit to the court premises.
- Ensure that all equipment, official documents, and stores do not leave or enter the premises without proper authorization.
- Operate and monitor control room security equipment effectively and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all security incidents and occurrences in the prescribed registers/books.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to emergency situations, coordinating with relevant authorities and following established emergency procedures.
- Implement and enforce security policies aligned with legislation such as the Access to Public Premises and Vehicle Act, MIS, NISA, and the Protection of Information Act.
- Maintain a visible security presence to deter unauthorized activities and ensure the safety of all court users.
- Provide excellent client service while enforcing security protocols, fostering a professional and respectful environment.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and other departments to facilitate smooth security operations.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 10 (ABET Level 2) certification or equivalent.
- Relevant previous experience in a security role is essential.
- A valid driver’s license will be considered an advantage.
- Successful completion of a basic security course registered with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA).
- Sound knowledge of security legislation and prescribed security procedures applicable to a judicial environment.
Skills and Competencies
- In-depth understanding of security protocols concerning access control and movement of equipment and stores.
- Knowledge of duties and authority of security officers under applicable legislation such as MIS, NISA, and the Protection of Information Act.
- Awareness of emergency and evacuation procedures.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact professionally with the public, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Capacity to apply Batho Pele Principles ensuring excellent service delivery.
- Ability to listen attentively, assess information critically, and solve problems effectively.
- Sound decision-making skills and ability to handle difficult situations calmly and confidently.
- Basic computer literacy for maintaining records and reporting.
- Facilitation skills to carry out security awareness and training when required.
