Job Overview

Woodlands Dairy is recruiting a Health & Safety Officer to support compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards within its operations. The role reports to the Safety Supervisor and focuses on managing workplace risks, improving safety performance and ensuring adherence to legislative requirements across the organisation.

The position requires a proactive approach to maintaining safe working conditions through monitoring systems, conducting inspections and supporting a culture of continuous improvement in occupational health and safety practices within a fast-paced FMCG environment.

Key Performance Areas
  • Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Maintain Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) below target levels
  • Coordinate fire team evacuation drills and emergency preparedness activities
  • Conduct routine audits and inspections to assess departmental compliance
  • Maintain accurate administrative records including reports, legal registers and documentation
  • Ensure safety signage is updated and compliant
  • Conduct risk assessments and deliver toolbox talks
  • Evaluate risks continuously and assess safety equipment effectiveness
  • Record, report and investigate incidents and implement corrective actions
  • Support health and safety training programmes
Knowledge and Skills
  • SAMTRAC or Risk Management qualification
  • Diploma in Health & Safety Management or Environmental Health
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety standards
  • Emergency preparedness and response training
  • Computer literacy in Safety Management Systems such as Shopware or SHEQX
  • Strong report writing and documentation skills
Minimum Requirements
  • Matric certificate
  • 2 to 3 years’ experience as a Health & Safety Officer
  • Ability to conduct audits, inspections and incident investigations
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
