The Uthukela District Municipality will be running an Extended Public Works Programme in line with its adopted EPWP policy which seeks to create opportunities for the local unemployed people within the Uthukela District Municipality as part of the Expanded Public Works Programme. The aim of the program is set to combat poverty and unemployment within the District Municipality.

Uthukela District unemployed people are invited to register on the Uthukela District Municipality Job Portal and apply for placement in the EPWP Programme Maintenance Programme. Participants in the performing the following functions.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of Grade 10 qualification
  • Applicants must be reside within the jurisdiction of Uthukela District Municipality.
  • Must be unemployed and not received old age grant and must be in possession of valid South African identity document.
  • The candidate must be willing to participate in the council’s EPWP Maintenance Programme and to work under pressure in different environments under the auspices of municipal driven co-operative approach.

Added Advantage:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Relevant Vocational Training (TVET) or certifications relating to Plumbing, Pipefitting or Wastewater Treatment.
  • Courses in water technology environmental science or a related field.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical Fitness – The job often requires heavy lifting, standing for long periods and working in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces tasks such as Sewer maintenance may require working in tight or underground spaces.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in plumbing, water distribution or sewerage systems maintenance is added advantage.

General Requirement:

  • an appointed individuals will be expected to partake in different projects identified by the municipality during the course of the contract.

Duties to be undertaken:

  • Successful candidates are expected to undertake any work specified within the District Municipality not limited to general maintenance duties in different municipal areas, such as the following:

Project 1 – Water Service Delivery Intervention (Infrastructure Sector) 62 (work opportunities) X R126.64 daily rate / X12 working days for 12-months

Project 2 – uThukela Environmental Impact (Environmental Sector) 17 (work opportunities) X R126.64 daily rate / X12 working days for 12-months

Project 3 – uThukela Health Promotion (Social Sector) 17 (work opportunities) X R126.64 daily rate / X 12 working days for 12-months

Compulsory Requirements:

  • A candidate must submit an application form which is available at municipal offices along with certified ID document, proof of residence from a ward councillor as well as copies of education qualification (if any)
  • No CV’s are required

Candidates who have been previously participated in apprenticeship or internship with the Uthukela District Municipality are not eligible for this opportunity.
