Title: Intern Finance
Institution: South African International Maritime Institute (SAIMI) – Head office in Gqeberha
Location: SAIMI headquarters, located at the Nelson Mandela University Oceans Campus, Gomery Avenue, Summerstrand, Gqeberha
Contract Period: 01 February 2024 – 31 March 2024.

Core Purpose of Job:
SAIMI is seeking to hire a Finance Intern who will assist with the coordination of the day-to-day administrative responsibilities of the financial department and provide assistance in performing and coordinating the financial transactions of the entity.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Financial Administration
    o Financial record-keeping.
    o Requisition processing and follow-up.
    o Pastel processing in line with ITS.
    o Clearing of old commitments.
    o Service provider and project expenditure verifications.
    o Perform reconciliations of expenditure and budgets.
    o Perform tasks as required by management in support of business goals.
  • Information Management
    o Updated financial document management system.
    o Updated asset register.
    o Administer an electronic filing system for easy access and distribution to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Secretarial and Administrative Support
    o Answers, screens, and directs all telephone calls to appropriate parties and screens correspondence from internal and external stakeholders.
    o Develops PowerPoint presentations for internal and external meetings, as and when required.
    o Responds to questions or correspondence from internal and external stakeholders or refers them to the appropriate expert.
    o Drafts general and confidential correspondence and reports as and when assigned.
    o Maintains and organizes the financial filing system.

Qualifications, experience, and skillsrequired:

  • Diploma majoring in accounting and/or internal auditing.
  • Good knowledge of accounting principles, financial systems, budget/cash-flow monitoring and
    internal accounting controls.
  • Excellent organizational skills, administrative experience and record keeping.
  • Good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Good knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
  • Excellent communicationsskills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and adjust workload accordingly.
  • Capable of identifying and completing critical tasks independently and with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work at a consistent level with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy are critical.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all assignments.
  • Inter-personal skills – ability to interact and build relationships with diverse stakeholders at all levels
