Reporting to: Executive, Brand and Communication: Consumer Industries

Overview: Job Purpose and Deliverables

Core Purpose of the Role

The Marketing and Communications Intern will assist the Brand and Communications team in their daily operations and support various projects aimed at enhancing Barloworld’s marketing and communication efforts with key stakeholders. This role offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in corporate communications, branding, event management, and general marketing operations.

Key Deliverables and Outputs:

Communication and Corporate Branding

  • Assist in the creation, updating, and maintenance of internal branding and communication materials.
  • Support the development and coordination of communications across internal channels, including working with suppliers to help develop or source new materials.
  • Help manage internal knowledge libraries, including photo galleries, video archives, and the group’s calendar of events.
  • Assist in sourcing promotional and branding items, making suggestions where appropriate, and ensuring that items are kept up-to-date.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to support the pricing negotiation and approval process for branded collateral.
  • Help track and manage the application of Barloworld’s corporate identity, ensuring consistent use across all communications, with guidance from the communications manager.
  • Assist in updating the corporate website, ensuring that the content remains relevant and up-to-date in collaboration with the communications and content teams.

Event Management

  • Support the planning and coordination of internal events related to investor relations and marketing and communications.
  • Help engage external vendors and service providers to source equipment and manage logistics for events.
  • Assist with setting up webinars, conference calls, and virtual events.
  • Provide support for media communications related to company results and events.

General Administration

  • Help maintain and update the department’s project status report, tracking tasks and progress.
  • Provide administrative support, including managing invoicing and assisting with budget updates.
  • Assist with managing communications through departmental email accounts and help direct queries to the relevant teams.
  • Help with stock-taking and maintaining inventory of marketing and communication materials.
  • Provide support with calendar management for the Executive’s diary when needed.

Academic Qualifications
Essential:

Currently pursuing or recently completed an undergraduate degree or diploma in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field.

Personal Attributes

  • Strong willingness to learn and a proactive approach to new tasks.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • A creative mindset with a flexible and adaptable attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative work style.
  • High attention to detail and good organizational skills.

Skills and Experience
Previous experience in a marketing, communications, or administrative role through internships, university projects, or extracurricular activities is a plus.

  • Good understanding of basic marketing and communications principles.
  • Comfortable using common office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite,) as well as social media platforms.
  • Strong interest in pursuing a career in marketing, communications, or corporate branding.
