Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Buyer that has arisen within BBF Safety Group (Pty Ltd at Pinetown.

The Buyer will report to the Group Procurement Manager and will have amongst others, the following duties and responsibilities:

Job Purpose:
Researching, selecting and purchasing quality raw materials with a strong emphasis on innovative, cost-saving initiatives to deliver on annual KPIs. Building relationships with suppliers and negotiating with them for the best price, quantities and delivery timescales. Processing requisitions and updating management on the status of orders. Updating inventory and managing stock levels.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create orders on key/critical commodities.
  • Conduct Price Review and negotiations with Suppliers.
  • Facilitate the selection of suppliers.
  • Determine the best cost routing for suppliers.
  • Liaise with the suppliers regarding quality and delivery issues.
  • Conduct Supplier visits and evaluations.
  • Facilitate Supplier development and improvements in line with BBF strategic objectives.
  • Conduct product investigation/sourcing and benchmarking.
  • Facilitate product and raw material rationalisation projects.
  • Draw up Supplier contracts/Service Level Agreements and Request for Quotes (RFQs).
  • Facilitate and drive cost-saving projects.
  • Manage expeditors allocated to your team.
  • Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and keep up good regular communications.
  • Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken concerning all supplier relationships.
  • Attend to any ad hoc duties assigned by the Procurement Manager.
  • Work with the Import Buyer to ensure the best freight cost and incoterms are used/achieved.
  • Provide reports on deliveries and notify Buyers/management in advance should a delay in delivery
    occur.
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders to claim lost shipment/ find a missing shipment.
  • Train graduates/ interns on procurement functions.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Matric/Grade 12
  • Tertiary Qualification in Supply Chain or Finance
  • 2-3 years of buying experience in a manufacturing environment

Skills:

  • Excellent negotiating skills.
  • Ability to drive cost-saving initiatives while maintaining product quality.
  • Strong customer-facing skills.
  • Presentable and professional.
  • Supply Chain background and expertise.
  • A strong finance background will be advantageous.
  • Computer Literate, preferably on an MRP System.
