City of Cape Town invites interested and suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position Environmental Health Assistant to be based in Western Cape

POSITION: Environmental Health Assistant

SALARY: Basic Salary R 230 379 per annum

REFERENCE NUMBER: HS 06/25 ext

DIRECTORATE: COMMUNITY SERVICES and HEALTH

DEPARTMENT: City Health

ELIGIBILITY: All Candidates

Requirements

  • A Grade 12 (Senior Certificate), with preferably 1 -2 years’ experience in either Pest Control, Health Education, Water Sampling or peace officer.
  • Registration with Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
  • PC Literate
  • No Criminal record.
  • Valid Code EB driver’s licence.
  • Physically fit and be prepared to work on weekends and at night, if required.
  • Proficiency in isiXhosa language will be advantages

Key Performance Areas

  • Assist the Environmental Health Practitioner in performance of duties relating to Water Quality Management, Food Control,
    Health Surveillance of premises, Environmental Pollution Control, Vector Control, Chemical Safety and Waste Management).
  • Assist in the enforcement of legislation, Council policies and Bylaws relevant to Environmental Health.
  • Conduct Vector Control activities, including surveillance, destruction and investigation of complaints
  • Assist in the delivery of Environmental Health education programmes and special campaigns.
  • Perform administrative duties, including report writing to ensure sound administrative procedures for effective service delivery.
  • Identify and report environmental health factors like overgrown canals or water streams causing stagnation of water and mosquito breeding.
  • Follow-up and investigate Communicable Diseases cases i.e. TB defaulters.
  • Assist with training and supervision of assigned EPWP workers.
