PURPOSE OF JOB:
- Maintain all test equipment to maximize the availability and accuracy of instruments.
- To ensure an on-time, accurate chemical test service is rendered to internal clients.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure necessary tasks are carried out according to relevant works instruction.
- Understand the principles related to chemical analysis techniques e.g., OES spectroscopy.
- Ensure calibration of all chemical analytical instruments.
- Calibration of spectrometers (ICP spark OES) are always performed and are in a state of readiness.
- Perform internal checks with internal standards to ensure accurate performance of instruments.
- Maintain drift correction of statistical control charts.
- Conduct daily double star on previous day final samples and inform Supervisor and Production of any irregularities.
- Performs wet chemical analysis (ICP OES)
- Be able to create and maintain methods of metals on ICP.
- Be able to do preparations of standards and solutions for wet chemical analysis.
- Be able to do methods such as titrations etc
- Performs regular testing of the acid and water baths in the extrusion, forging and wire plants.
- Be able to operate the Induction furnace to melt samples for analysis on the spectrometers.
- Assists production in understanding and resolving non-conformances in acid and water bath analysis.
- Be able to work in accordance with the GLPS (Good laboratory procedure system.
- Supervise day to day activities of Spectrometer Operators, including setting of performance targets and shift scheduling.
- Responsibility for developing and writing works instructions when required.
- Ensure that all spectrometer operators are trained.
- Remain on standby as per standby roster 24 hours a day, 7 days a week when the furnaces are running to ensure that the service rendered to the casting operations are maintained.
- To perform any other reasonable requests / instructions related to QA responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Grade12 (Mathematics and Physical science with a minimum D symbol)
- Diploma in Analytical Chemistry
- 3-5 Years’ experience in a laboratory
