We have an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Health Assistant. The purpose of this role is to Provide general assistance in the Occupational Health Clinic and operate the clinic’s surveillance station.
Job Description:
As our Occupational Health Assistant some of your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Safety and Health and Environment
- Ensure compliance with all workplace safety, health, and environmental protocols, including using personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to sanitation standards within the health centre.
- Actively monitor the Occupational Health Centre for potential safety or health hazards, promptly reporting issues and taking immediate action to mitigate risks to patients and colleagues.
- Support and promote health and safety awareness within the clinic, educating patients on basic health practices and encouraging adherence to safety guidelines throughout the health screening process.
- Performance and Delivery
- Occupational Health Surveillance Stations
- Conduct assessments at designated stations, including Vision, Audiometry (hearing), Spirometry (lung function), Blood Pressure, Medical History, and Urinalysis.
- Ensure all station protocols and safety measures are followed, accurately capturing health data.
- Health Information
- Accurately input, update, and manage results within the Health Source system.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure adherence to data privacy and health information regulations.
- Equipment Maintenance
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of all health screening equipment to ensure hygiene and optimal functionality.
- Calibrate equipment regularly to comply with standards, ensuring precision in all health measurements.
- Clinic Operations
- Provide general support in the Occupational Health Centre, assisting healthcare providers with day-to-day tasks and patient care.
- Manage inventory of medical supplies, ensure all workstations are well-stocked, and prepare stations for health assessments.
- Outputs
- All health assessments are conducted accurately and in line with standard operating procedures, ensuring consistent and reliable data collection.
- Results are promptly and accurately recorded in Health Source, allowing for timely access to up-to-date

- All equipment is kept clean, calibrated, and ready for use, minimising downtime and enhancing assessment accuracy.
- Proactive assistance is provided in the clinic, ensuring smooth operations and a well-organized health screening environment.
This role is in the Safety Health & Environment (SHE)discipline at a A4 level reporting to Occupational Health Coordinator
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Relevant Health related qualification on NQF4
- SA Drivers Licence
Technical Knowledge
- 2-3 years of relevant experience in an occupational health centre.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, including WORD, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of Customer Relationship Management.
- Knowledge of Medical Testing: Vision, Audio, Spiro, Urine and Drug Screening.
