Idwala Industrial Holdings, with interests in lime, carbonates, magnetite and other industrial minerals in various locations, has an opportunity for a Chief Safety Officer based at its Danielskuil operation in Northern Cape, reporting directly to the Divisional Risk Manager.
The purpose of this role is to maintain Occupational Health and Safety Standards and Systems to ensure compliance.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Ensure compliance to Occupational Health and Safety and related legal requirements
- Hold a 2.17.4 and 2.17.1 Legal Appointment.
- Conduct site inspection as per schedule, to ensure all employees are working safe and adhering to the company procedures and report any deviations to the relevant Manager.
- Participate in root cause analysis (investigation) of accident and IOD’s
- Co-ordinate Occupational Health and Safety committee meetings, safety induction and related training.
- Ensure sub-contractor mandatory agreements (SHE File) / Public Liability / and COIDA LOGS are up to date
- Ensure SHE related administration, work permits, Operator permits and other related permits are kept up to date according to mine standard.
- Compliance with the ISO 45001 Health and Safety Management System
- Monitor update and review of DMRE Mandatory Code of practice
- Ensure all legal appointments are up to date as required when there are structural or leadership changes.
- Compile Health and Safety Management review statistics and report to all relevant stakeholders.
- Conduct emergency drills and exercises on how to manage emergency circumstances.
- Co-ordinating emergency response plan.
- Perform Safety standby duties as per schedule.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a National Diploma in Safety Management or relevant qualification
- Must be in a possession of a COMSOC 1 & 2 or SAMTRAC certificate
- Have 4 – 5 years’ experience as a Safety Officer in Mining environment
- Sound knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (ISO 9001: 2015; ISO 14001:2015; ISO 45001:2018)
- Sound knowledge of Risk Assessment Systems and Occupational Hygiene Measurements.
- Proficient with – MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and outlook
- Be familiar with MHSA regulations and its application
- Willingness to non-traditional hours including night shift, Saturdays and occasionally Sundays.
- Valid driving licence.
